“Great hotel with great views- shame about the smokers”

Having read the mixed reviews we arrived at the San Pietro with some trepidation - we needn't have worried. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, very clean, and with excellent air conditioning which meant we could enjoy the heat outside and yet sleep very well at night. Prior to departure I spent 30 minutes with a phrase book to put together an e-mail in my "best" Italian, requesting rooms on the top floor, which we got - with glorious views over Lake Garda

Our teenage sons thoroughly enjoyed the"splash pool", and we adults enjoyed staying on the upper levels which were much quieter.

Breakfast was adequate - in actual fact compared to other four star Italian hotels, we enjoyed the fact that the San Pietro had fresh fruit at all meals and unsweetened juices.
The coffee was okay, nothing to enthuse about.

With regard to dinner, being a starter and dessert kind of girl I lived on antipasti and desserts for the week, which were ample, got refilled and featured sun dried tomatoes, different salads, Italian cheeses etc.

The only gripe I have with the San Pietro was the fact that there were no outdoor spaces anywhere that were non smoking, and that since the majority of guests were German, and hence smokers, we had a permanent battle to find clean air. This included the fact that for some of the nights we felt we could not use our balcony because it simply stank out there. I put this in the hotel review we were given, and also in the First Choice review. Maybe, if enough guests ask for a non smoking zone, it will happen.

We used the shuttle bus a couple of times, but Tiziana the kind but very(!) chatty holiday rep told us about a short cut into Limone which we used. Also I needed the walk with all the puddings I was eating!

Altogether, we had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

“Just as amazing as last year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Returned to Hotel San Pietro as I decided that after a very relaxing break last year that another was in order. The hotel is beautiful but the real gem of staying here is the views that you have from being positioned slightly higher up.

The rooms are all very basic but have everything you could need. The balconies all have amazing views but I did request a room on the top floor and this was given. Only gripe if any is that the TV has hardly any English channels but then I didn't really want to watch any TV. I also arrived at 11am which was earlier than expected and they checked me straight into my room with no problems. Plenty of car parking space below the rooms as well.

Aside from the view the main reson for returning to this hotel is the top level pool. If you are looking for some de-stress time this is the place to go. Relaxed, quiet with an urivalled view. I had the added pleasure of the temperature being 35 degrees every day without any rain.

We ate breakfast and lunch at the restaurants most days and the food was all too a good standard. Never ate there for dinner so can't comment. All staff were really friendly and Felipo behind the bar even helped me learn some basic Italian.

If I was to return to Lake Garda which I have no doubt that I will, I am certain that there is only one hotel that I will booking with.

“The views were amazing”

We stayed for a week in July and the views were amazing. There was plenty of choice at the evening meals and the bonus of help-yourself wine and soft drinks. Yes, the walk back from the harbour was very steep but if you pace yourself it is bearable. The hotel was spacious and there were nice touches - an aromatherapy pack left on the bed one morning. We emailed prior to our visit and asked for a room with an unrestricted view - exactly what we got.
Nothing can prepare you for the stunning views - we would certainly return.

“Lovely hotel with fabulous views.”

9th July 2011...Our second visit to the San Pietro in Limone the first being in August 2003 and again it doesn’t disappoint , and neither does the beautiful Lake Garda. Everything is much the same except the trees and foliage have grown some in the last eight years, because of this the rooms were described by ‘First Choice’ as having a ‘limited lake view’. Ours had a palm tree in the garden which blocked the view a little but it wasn’t a major problem and just added to the general beauty. In our room complimentary sparkling wine, water, and chocolate greeted us. The rooms are very spacious by European standards and the beds are around 6 ft wide. (presumably two singles zipped together) There is also a sofa and a small table with two chairs. The furnished balcony or terrace gives you outdoor space. Room facilities include a mini bar fridge, a kettle and some limited daily tea and coffee supplies. We normally buy a carton of milk from the local supermarket and bring tea bags with us anyway. There is a free safe box in the floor of the wardrobe, but the TV’s old and not much in the way of English programs if that’s important to you. Towelling robes and slippers are provided, as are towels for pool and sun bed use. The aircon is good and essential in July and August, it can get very hot and humid during the summer months. We ran it 24/7.
Some of the facilities like the main pool are shared with its sister hotel the Cristina. But San Pietro guests have access to several additional levels of spacious sun terraces, and the infinity pool that is designated an adults only quiet zone. We never had any trouble finding a sun bed, there is plenty of space and fantastic views from these terraces.
Complimentary tea, coffee, cake and biscuits were available by the main pool each day between 4 & 5pm.
The meals in the main restaurant are all served buffet style and we enjoyed free unlimited red/white wine, water and soft drinks at dinner. You could sit anywhere inside or out.
Breakfast is a comprehensive hot/cold buffet, and if you want fried eggs the chef will cook them for you.
At dinner there was soup, consommé and several pasta dishes. Rice and plain spaghetti with a separate tomato sauce was always available. There is a very comprehensive salad/ hors d’oeuvre selection, and three hot meat and one fish dish each evening.
One small disappointment only one hot potato and one hot vegetable choice each evening, but the salad bar was so comprehensive and had a big range of cold vegetables that you wouldn’t go hungry. Desserts etc completed the menu.
We like this hotel and would return again without hesitation.

We would recommend...
Getting the ‘privilege card’ from reception which gives discounts on the official ferries and the Malcesine cable car etc.
Buying a good supply of the shuttle bus tickets from reception (80c), it’s a long walk up hill and he can’t take cash on the mini-bus! You can cash back any unused ones.
Exploring the little lanes above the hotel via the back gate. Discover the little chapel in the olive groves just a few minutes down the track opposite the hotel gate. And the Comboni Mission further up the hill.
The delightful Malcesine...it reminds us of Venice and then it reminds us of Provence. E 8.20 return with the privilege card from Limone Centro to Malcesine Centro. Or E 8.00 return on the private boat from Limone Porto Nuevo (Easy 10 mins walk from landing stage to Malcesine Centro)
Riva...E 6.20 return with the ‘card’ from Limone Centro.
The all day lake trip on the private boat from Limone Porto Nuevo E 35.00. 2 1/2hours in Sirmione and 1 ½ hours in Garda.

“You may need a brolly to get to dinner!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

As a change from our usual 'Spanish beach' holidays we decided on Lake Garda, Limone and the San Pietro hotel with 'First Choice'
After a 2 hour coach trip from Verona airport along Lake Garda we arrived at the San Pietro (4*)and sister hotel Cristina (3*). An odd arrangement that had the reception (hardly impressive) for the two hotels combined. Excellent reception staff soon had us dealt with and our cases taken to our room. Wow, what a fantastic view. Top floor on the end. We had requested a top floor by email previously and they came up trumps.
Room of average size, clean and tidy, traditionally furnished. Provided were: robes and slippers, sparkling wine, water, bar of chocolate and towels for the pool, a nice touch and unexpected. Tea / coffee making facilities were provided as was a free safety deposit box. Mini bar (expensive).
All locks were by key rather than card entry /digital. Balcony quite good size with usual 2 chairs and table.
On to the dining room and food. The only access to the dining room is from the exterior so all have to venture outside ( mostly up steps) hence the aforementioned brolly if it's raining. Pasta dishes were excellent and the soup was OK, if not as hot as it may have been. A vast array of salad dishes which included cold sprouts, beans etc. The hot dishes comprised of roast pork or turkey most nights and the hot veg (1 only) and potato was really not up to the mark for a 4 star hotel. Sweets were limited and repetative but we did not go hungry. House wine (really quite drinkable!) and water were freely availble on a self service basis but there was a wine list if you choose to spend extra. Waiting staff were 'politley reserved'. Seating was plentiful both inside and out on the terrace and on our visit seemed only half full.
Breakfast was the same spread of cold meat and cheese with only scrambled eggs and a 'sort of bacon' available everyday. Fruit juice and a choice of coffee was only from a machine. Disappointing.
Hotel grounds had a good choice for sitting out with wonderful views over the lake and plenty of indoor space also. Choice of swimming pools for the San Pietro. We were given a key to the 'upper' and indoor pools. No rush for sunbeds etc. As it rained every day (first week of June) with the exception of 2 mornings this may have helped!! Free afternoon tea/coffee with biscuits and cake was a nice touch. Evening entertainment was mmmmm.... No rush to get in.
Limone is a beautiful flower bedecked lake side town, quite busy even in early season. Plenty of nice shops and cafes, a small beach and public toilets available.
A fifteen minute walk down to the town and the hotel mini bus at 80 cents return (taxi 8 euro's) we didn't attempt the climb back up. If you want views then this hotel provides the best, if you want to be in the town then choose from the many lakeside ones.
As in most Hotels the San Pietro had it's good and bad points. For us it was alright but a little disappointing in places.
Would we return? No, but then we do prefer a beach by the sea.

Room Tip: email the Hotel about two weeks before your stay
