I am surprised that this hotel has a 4 star rating. The buildings are modern and characterless. The bedrooms, while being spacious, very clean and reasonably comfortable, are dark and dingy with clashing colour schemes and cheap looking furniture covered with fake gilt and marble. This decor extends into the public areas and restaurant. and is extremely oppressive The television had only one international channel which was German. The pool is very good and suitable for adults and children (though not toddlers) alike. The gardens are pleasant, though the hotel lies between a fairly busy road and a dual carriageway so there is constant, though not overly loud traffic noise. This cannot be heard in the bedrooms. The breakfast is good with a reasonable amount of choice, although the coffee is very poor for italy. The outside eating area overlooking the gardens and pool is very pleasant, but the inside restaurant suffers from the same decor as the rest of the hotel. We ate in the restaurant once and the food was very good, though expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. Staff were generally friendly, though not especially helpful when asked the best place to hire a car. If you choose to accept the "free" wine tasting, it will result in a hard sell. The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting some of the best sights in Tuscany, such as Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and the Chianti area but you will need your own transport Taxis to the railway station in Siena cost 25-35 euros. Monteriggioni itself (about 2 miles away) is a beautifully preserved medieval town with stunning views of the surrounding area. We ate in all of the four restaurants. All were pretty much equally good although the prices varied quite a lot,
