“Loved this Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2007

We came across this place by accident, and having gone into the walled village of Monteriggioni and asked the price of a room there which we found too high, we were delighted to drive less than a mile and come across the gem that is Il Piccolo with a more reasonably priced room. The whole hotel has a wonderful ambience, a comfortable room, and a delightful outside area with a heated swimming pool. We do not eat meat, but the receiptionist arranged for the chef to cook us some grilled fish and vegetables, which were delightful. When we got up in the morning, the outside temperature was only 10 degrees and there was steam coming from the heated outside pool! We found the hotel an unexpected treat and so close to Siena too.

  • Liked — The decor
  • Disliked — Not a lot of choice on the menu, but the chef accommodated us anyway.

“beautiful hotel in countryside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2007

We stopped at this hotel by chance while touring near sienna.
It is fairly new, single storey built in Tuscan style but with every modern amenity. The rooms are built around the pool so open directly onto the terrace. Other rooms open to the gardens.
The staff were very helpful. The breakfast excellent. Unfortunately we could not sample the restaurant as wedding parties were uusing it, but this gave us the opportunity to find local trattoria The pool was quite large and well-provided with sun loungers and umbrellas.
The hotel also has a gym, a beauty salon and conference room, but we did not sample these facilities.
It owns an excellent restaurant in Monteriggioni whichis about 2-3 miles away. We enjoyed sitting in shaded garden for lunch and later inside for dinner.
The hotel could not take us the first night but gave us a room in the apartment they had in the village. It wasone of the highlights of our holiday. We stayed in the main hotel a further two nights before moving on to the coast.
I would love to go back and recommend it fully.
This hotel would suit a couple on a touring holiday who prefer the country to the city.

“What a Tuscan Gem”

This hotel was included in our Tauk tour and what a great choice. The location is rural but the hotel is new (about 5 years). Big room (ours had a loft with a second bed and couch) with king size bed. Nice sized bathroom and wardrobe. Loved the fluffy bathrobes and slippers.
If you stay be sure to ask about dinner at the Castle (about 1 km away) which used to be their location.
Unfortunately it was cool and rained during our stay or we would have used the beautiful pool and bicycled in the fantastic countryside.
Restaurant had a nice buffet breakfast and the kitchen and bar did not disappoint.

  • Liked — Four star accomodation that did not disapoint
  • Disliked — Internet connection is minimal

“Charming, well maintained, great reataurant”

The four of us (2 adults and 2 children) stayed in one of the mezzanine rooms which was large enough and of very good quality. We chose half board lodging and did day trips into the Chianti region/Firenze/Volterra/Siena etc.. The logistical position of the hotel is superb. Breakfast was good. Evening meals of very good and consistent quality. Served outside, overlooking the pool. Very friendly personnel, great service. We could truly recommend this hotel. One improvement area could be maintenance of the garden.

  • Liked — overall quality of the food and the cleanliness of the hotel
  • Disliked — maintenance of the garden
  • Tips/Secrets — Great starting point for day trips into the great wine regions of Tuscany

“Decor rather rococo-kitsch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2005

We slightly regretted choosing this hotel as part of our holiday for the following reasons:

- the hotel is in a sort-of spread-out light industrial zone, on a main road, backing onto the Florence-Siena dual carriageway and next to a Mitsubishi dealership. The motorway was audible from the pool.

- the clientele when we were there was mainly coach parties.

- we hadn't realised that the hotel is very recently built. The fake antique paintings and furniture are perfect examples of rococo-kitsch.

The level of comfort, the service, the standard of food etc at this hotel were all very good, but if you're looking for somewhere with a view of beautiful countryside and a bit of charm, this isn't the place!
