“A Great Base for Atmosphere and Exploration”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2011

We stayed at the Hotel Monteriggioni for thee nights towards the end of our brief tour of this part of central Tuscany .

The hotel is situated within the small walled and historic town of Montigriggionni , which by any measure makes it an exceptional location . Lots of tourists throughout the day but a strole round the square in the early morning or evening are a delight. Then of course there is the pleasant and secluded garden to retreat to when required .

The hotel is an very good conversion of some old buildings ; the enterior is stylish and polished rather than ousing rustic charm . The room we had was both comfortable and functional rather than cosy .

The hotel provides a good buffet breakfast and there are two good resturants ( we preferred Le Roma ) within a few yards and a number of bars . The owner Luigie is very welcoming and helpful .

Overall , a comfortable and well run hotel from which to explore the area .

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back overlooking the walls.

“A perfect balance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

The perfect balance between comfort, simplicity, elegance, and hospitality. Room was classic traditional Tuscan style (wood pannelled ceiling, chunky dark wood furniture). View over private gardens to the "battlements" of Monteriggioni was lovely. The host was delightful - really friendly and kind. The breakfast was exceptional - real care taken with the selection and display of food Someone had taken the time to arrange beautiful flowers and other extras on each breakfast table. It was obvious that they pay great attendtion to getting the details right whilst creating a very relaxing atmosphere - a difficult combination to get right.

“A truly remarkable location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

After establishing we could drive within the walls of this remarkable town, we were greeted by the genial host and his staff who helped with our luggage and ensured our car was quickly moved to ensure no parking fines.

Breakfast every morning was a delight in the open courtyard, and the strawberry filled croissants on first days breakfast divine. We strolled both nights out into the piazza for dinner, the weather making this a delightful experience.

Not cheap accomodation, but nothing was left to chance at all

“Location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

We stayed at the Monteriggioni for 3 nights at the beginning of our holiday in Tuscany - amazing location in a beautifully preserved medieval walled town. Very special to stay here and be able to walk around before the numerous tourists arrive each day! Very warm welcome from the family owners (nothing was too much trouble for them), comfortable, quiet rooms, and super Italian breakfasts, and a lovely, small, refreshing pool. Try the local wines made by the family. Also recommend dinner at Il Pozzo - just 20 steps away, ask for a table in the garden, and try the fresh pasta. Highly recommended for a two to three night stay.

“Tuscany's Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

The Hotel Monteriggioni is on of those rare hotel finds that turns your "trip" into a "vacation". Located within the walls of a 12th century castel, it's the perfect "base camp" with which to explore and enjoy all of Tuscany. The rooms/bathrooms are well-appointed and intimately cozy for couples, however, some would find the shower a bit small (but what would one expect in a 12th century building?). The staff is very attentive (especially Martina, with her evening offers of lemonicello and chocolate torte) and eager to help you with your daily Tuscan explorations. The continental breakfast (sit in their private garden patio to enjoy the ambience of Tuscany) is the perfect way to start your day, especially if you have Manuella make your first Cappuccino of the morning. Private parking behind the hotel, and a private swimming pool for hot summer evenings, adds to the value of this hotel - priced much better than most in Tuscany with the same immenities. Additionally, their are four excellent restaurants inside the castle walls (I would recommend sitting outside at the Il Feudo Osteria and Bar for a relaxed and economically-priced meal). Within driving minutes from some of the most sought-after, beautiful hilltop Tuscan towns (Siena, San Gimignano, Casole D' Elsa, Radda, Volterra, Colle Val D' Elsa), or experiencing the one-hour, same-train ride from Poggibonsi to Firenze, coming back to the Hotel Monteriggioni each evening will make for your perfect Tuscan vacation experience - a MUST stay on my list.
