“Good food at a great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Apologies to those of you expecting a review on the bedrooms, etc., but as the hotel restaurant is not listed amongst the other Merida restaurants, using the hotel link was the only way I could find to say something useful about the restaurant... We opted for the menu del dia, which offered three large plates of food (each) plus a bottle of wine or water (between two) for an extremely fair price. I would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant which offered excellent value for money for the menu

“Just lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

Had a night here on the way from Madrid to Lisbon. On entering the town thought this was a big mistake but once we got to the old town and the central square, where the hotel is, thoughts changed. The hotel was impeccably located (i.e. right on the old square) and was tastefully appointed. The open lobby area was lovely for a drink and the barman very friendly. Our sightseeing the next day was all walkable from the hotel and the breakfast was quite simple but equally as good as any otehrs we had in Spain and Portugal.

“Fantastic stay”

Merida Palace was our favorite of all the hotels (7 total) on our trip to Spain. The location is great, you walk out the door and are in the main plaza of the town -- but it's not noisy or traffic-y. Our room, a standard one, was huge, big bed, entrance hall, large bath, we really felt comfortable. The hotel is just like the pictures, lots of character, special ambience. The staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was generous (loved the machine squeezing the fresh oranges into juice before my eyes). Merida was our favorite place (we visited Segovia, Seville, Barcelona among others). The town has an intimacy that is special, and you feel like a local more than a tourist. Everyone friendly and busy going about their lives among the fabulous Roman ruins.

“Excellent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

A very nice, centrally located hotel in the Roman city of Mérida, ideally suited for visiting the Roman ruins on foot. Rooms are clean and well decorated on a Roman theme. I only have two minor complaints. We visited at Carnival time and there was an all-night disco in the square outside. The room was not at all sound-proofed so we didn't get any sleep. Whilst Carnival is only once a year and some noise should be expected, I imagine that at other times of year as well, if there is any major activity in the square outside, you will hear it.

My second complaint is that the hotel bar and restaurant are open to the public and there is no separate residents' area. Because of the crowds at Carnival, it was quite difficult to find somewhere to sit and to get served at busy times. Whilst the hotel needs to make money and is perfectly within its rights to allow people in off the street, it was extremely noisy with lots of excited children running around. I think that paying guests deserved their own private seating area.

“Great Hotel”

First thing I must say, the hotel is not Melia anymore, now it belongs to MCA hoteles.
I stayed there with my wife just for on night, but I think it was enough time to write a review.
When I was doing check-in they ask me if I want to park my car for € 15, I accepted and the staff took my car and brought it again next day without knowing where the car were. So I had no problem to find a place to park and no headache about security. That's good.
The hotel is located right in the Plaza de España, the centre of the city, so everyplace it deserves to be visited is a walk way distance.
Room was spacious, clean and hot, wich was good because the night was chilly.
I didn't take breakfast because in Spanish Hotels is an extra, so I went to the main square in front to eat at a coffe-bar, like other guests (it's a 5star breakfast with a 5star price, has you can guess...).
About touristic routes you just ask at the front desk, they explain you all. Nice staff.
I recommend it, for some reason is a 5 star.
