“great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here for a short break to Merida. The hotel itself is very close to the city centre but if you dont want to walk over the old roman bridge there is a bus stop at the end of the st which will take you directly into town for 75cents!
The room was large and comfortable with lovely views to Merida, comfortable huge bed and free wi-fi.
Breakfast had everything you could wish for bacon, eggs, fresh fruit cereals, ham ,cheese etc etc.The staff always had a smile for you in the bar or dining room and the Receptionists were great. One of the receptionists ,a blonde lady gave us a map and explained what to see and how to get there,by bus or walking. She certainly knew about the city and monuments, even recommending restaurants to us.
Across the street is a shopping centre / cinema complex with a few restaurants also (italian, chinese etc) so if you´d tired yourself out sightseeing during the day you could just go over there to eat or have a drink. All in all a very pleasant stay in Merida in a lovely Hotel with Staff who were happy to help in any way.I would certainly recommend or return here !!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have the best views of the city we had room 317 which was in a great position.

“Located next to a Carrefour Hypermarket, a Macdonalds Drive Thru, a Dual Carriageway and Retail park - lacked charm!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2009

This hotel is a standard business type hotel located in a newly developed area of town neext to the dual-carriageway, a Carrefour Hypermarket, and a Macdonalds Drive Thru. The area both lacks charm or any kind of quality ambiance - hardly what you would describe as a 'hidden gem'. It is a 40 minute walk to centre of Merida, which in 37 degrees (June) was extremely hot. The swimming pool was not open, despite the hotel information advertising it - incredible considering it was 37 degrees outside! The staff were professional corporate style, but disinterested in customers concerns. This may be Ok for a business meeting but for a holiday stay is poor - I really wished we had booked one of the much better located hotels in the centre of the town.

“awful experience cockroaches in bedroom”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2008

We spent two nights at the Tryp Merida during the theatre festival. How it is classed as four star hotel is baffling. We were told that they had no rooms with double beds-only twin beds put together. There was a smell of damp in the bedroom (3rd floor room 329) and on the second night we came back late to find a huge cockroach in the bathroom. We asked to be moved and were told that we would have to move to two single rooms as there were no doubles left at the rate that we had booked the room. We refused and eventually the night porter told the receptionist to move us to the fourth floor where the "superior" rooms were. Never again.

“Revisited Kitsch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2008

Modern hotel recommended to people with own car, have a little parking. The distance to central Merida is more or less 40 minutes by foot and in summer can be unbearable.Between two commercial centers, one a carrefour with a McDonald`s and the other bar-oriented and noisy with people and cars.
Big room and bathroom, clean but with a stunning kitsch decor, roman sheets, mirrors all over and with a olympic torch lamp included !Good a/c which is necessary, but water in tub changing hot to cold continuously, was impossible to keep one or another.Check in and out easy and friendly.
Good price through Melia chain hotel website, but without offer I recommended others hotels in citycenter
