Charming boutique hotel in Jerez de la Frontera.
My teen daughter and I stayed in Bellas Artes for 2 nights this past August. The hotel is in a lovely converted “hotel particulier” with a central open courtyard in the old part of Jerez. It’s a small, charming, boutique hotel that has been decorated with care and taste. It is, however, more of a 3* rather than a 4* hotel. As per the hotel’s pictures, the rooftop has an impressive view over the very impressive Jerez de la Frontera Cathedral.
Although the room was on the smallish side, it was comfortably appointed with 2 large beds. On the negative side, our room’s a/c leaked up a storm during our 2-day stay. And by leaked up a storm, I do mean that we had to request a bucket and towels from housekeeping. As it was a long weekend due to a public holiday, it was not possible to repair the a/c nor move us to another room as the hotel was fully booked. The staff tried their best to be helpful and appeared sincerely apologetic for the inconvenience.
The window in our room opened only to the interior courtyard which made the space feel a bit claustrophobic. The bathroom did not have an outside window. Bellas Artes offers free wifi throughout the hotel but we were never able to connect our different peripherals to the internet. The rooftop terrace has great potential. It currently features a Jacuzzi and a couple of tables. Nonetheless, there are no umbrellas and given the scorching heat, it’s impossible to spend any reasonable amount of time on the terrace during the day. The hotel does not offer bar / snack service there either.
Breakfast was acceptable and included a variety of breads, cheeses, cold cuts, and cereals.
There is a sitting room in the front that would make a lovely bar for an evening drink but I’m not sure if it’s used as such. The hotel seems to have few staff on call but that was perhaps due to the holiday weekend.
Although I don’t think that this was a problem exclusively to the hotel but rather to the very warm weather, throughout our visit, there were moments where pervasive gutter smells became unpleasantly overpowering.
Jerez is a charming town worth spending a weekend exploring. I would consider staying in Bellas Artes again as long as I had a room with an outside window.
