“Fading glory”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

It might have been a five star hotel in the past, but it sure no longer is such. 'Villa Jerez' is housed in a nice looking villa, walking distance to downtown Jerez and the sherry Bodegas. The hotel is past its glory ... carpet on the steps was removed, but the one in the hallway upstairs is beyond dirty. Water for one of the two sinks and one of the two showers (the power one) didn't work, and the patio furniture (table) was quite decrepit. The breakfast table was still set with silverware ... but the breakfast itself was very average, again far, far away from anything 5-stars.

“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

Stayed here for one night but wished we could have stayed longer.
Hotel is just like a private villa, absolutely beautiful and very elegant. Grounds very nice with a lovely swimming pool.
Our room was large, airy, beautiful bathroom, balcony overlooking the pool and garden area.
Staff are very nice, welcoming and friendly.
Breakfast was taken on the terrace outside by the pool. Good breakfast with lots of choices.
We walked into the town centre for our evening meal and ate at Bar Juanito. I can thoroughly recommend this place. Ask reception for directions. It was not far to walk.
Would love to come back and stay here again, but next time for a few days.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room overlooking the pool area and not the carpark.

“Faded but fun”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Everything here is a little bit passed its best. The worn out stair carpet referred to by others has gone (not replaced!) but the landing carpets need to follow suit - dirty and worn out! The old style food on the limited menu, the lack of service - although not for want of trying - and other niggles might put some off. However, it would be a great mistake to turn your back on it for within is a heart that is trying to make your stay as good as anywhere else in Jerez.

The point of the place lies in the architecture of a grand old house surrounded by lovely gardens. We sat on the verandah drinking chilled Tio Pepe as a searing October 1st sun slowly set, the very obliging but overworked staff trying their best to keep everybody happy. The gardens are all trim and smart and surrounded by trees which do a good job in numbing the noise of the traffic. The other point is a very nice saltwater - I think, but certainly no chlorine - swimming pool - all beautifully clean and well kept and a perfect place to relax.

A grand old house with only 18 rooms, surrounded by beautiful gardens with a lovely pool 10 mins walk from the middle of Jerez really is a good place to stay. We would certainly go back.

Room Tip: We were in a room overlooking the front door of the house which was OK but ask for one that overlook...

“Lovely hotel, lovely town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

Stayed 3 nights at the end of August, with another couple. The hotel is about 15 minutes taxi ride from the airport which cost 18Euros. It is situated on the edge of town, in a modern quarter, but the hotel building is an old villa, is elegant and attractive. That dirty carpet mentioned in previous reviews has gone! Lovely pool and pool area, discreet and polite staff, fino on the terrace in the evening sunlight, and good breakfast. We only had breakfast on the last morning (due to cost!) and there are plenty of cafes not too far away which serve coffee and tostadas for a fraction of the price. Did not see anybody eating a meal during our stay and got the impression that there is not really a kitchen, other than for breakfast.
Our room (204) faced the car park (the "pool view" rooms are more expensive) but it was not noisy and we slept well. Fab bathroom with a selection of showers! Good towels, comfortable bed, clean and well maintained. Yes, it is a good 20 minute walk into town, but a pleasant walk, and a taxi back will only cost you 5 Euros. Or walk half way back and stop off at the many bars and cafes for a night cap! Jerez is a delightful town with much to see. Visit a Bodega for an interesting tour and sit in one of the lovely plazas for tapas and fino whilst listening to live music. Would highly recommend Villa Jerez in the summer months to take advantage of the pool but, in view of its location, perhaps not so ideal in the winter when a more central hotel would suit.

a lovely relaxing stay in a peaceful location about 10 minutes from the centre. Staff were delightful and attentive and the room, pool area and gardens were really relaxing and well kept.
