Caceres is a town which is difficuly to navigate round and we eventually found the Hotel Extremadura. The room rate was 81 euros plus car parking at 12 euros a night, not unusual as Spanish towns are a nightmare to park in.
The hotel is in a good location on a main route and it's an easy fifteen minute walk down to the old centre with its many restaurants and bars in the Plaza Mayor. Our room was on the sixth floor overlooking the Avenida Ruta de la Plata.
We'd had a lovely evening and strolled back to the hotel where we found many people on the pavement next to the hotel. We thought they were just visiting the local bars and so we went to bed. In the room there was a rhythmic thumping noise and the now dozens of people stayed on the pavement outside laughing, chattering and shouting until 5am, when they slowly dispersed to the accompaniment of blaring car horns. The room's double glazing only reduced the noise slightly. We think the noise came from a disco club next to the hotel. This was on a Thursday evening in mid October so goodness knows what it's like in summer or at weekends!
At breakfast there was a very good selection although we had a long wait before we were shown to a table, the cooked food was cold and the staff were not very friendly.
This was a good hotel and we would have stayed longer but we had to move on to get some sleep.
