Gorgeous old building, although the room itself was a bit bland. Handy internet and printing facilities in the lobby, although not that cheap. Breakfast as ridiculously priced as always in hotels.

Could be hard to get staff's attention, and when I checked in, the guy on reception didn't bother to mention to me that there was a lift, or where it was. It's a complicated building, and after searching I didn't find it, so ended up lugging my bags up to the second floor before discovering that yes, there was a lift I could have used..!

Expensive for what it was, and particularly expensive telephone rates.

This NH hotel has all the necessary things you would need if you travel in the Spanish summer heat to Caceres e.g. UV filtered curtains, air conditioning, cool interior, soft downy pillows and bed.. we had a great rest in this hotel and loved the tasteful interior decoration.

The things that could improve are:
- parking: Caceres is an old town and finding parking space in the city is difficult. The only public parking really big enough and near enough to the Plaza Mayor and the Ciudad Monumental (Caceres old city quarters) is the Obispo Salazar parking at the plaza of the same name. However to get all the way from the parking to the NH hotel, you will have to haul your luggage up the stony stairs straight into Plaza Mayor and uphill to the hotel, all 300 metres.

So if you are heading there from the parking lot, with your back towards the parking lot, look for the first stone stairs on your right hand side. Go down it till the end, you will arrive at Plaza Mayor's corner with Calle Pintores, go along until you see the San Juan Church (it is easy to see as it has two statues of the Spanish Semana Santa cone hats and an old lady statue on the pavement). Then turn right and go through the shaded trees and there's the hotel.
Or you can also go down the stairs until you arrive Plaza Mayor, go straight towards Ayuntamiento you will see Calle Gran Via and then turn right walk up and on your left hand side is the hotel.

For parking fees, the hotel does make up for it by offering a promotion for parking fees. You hand the parking ticket to them whenever you want to take your car out of the parking lot, and they will give you a slip that says your parking fees will be charged to the hotel, then show the slip to the car park attendant and they will let you take your car out without needing to pay again. This option means the hotel will charge 9 euros per night for your car parked at the said parking lot. We checked and found that 9 euros per night is better than 15 or+ euros.

As for breakfast, they charged quite expensively. So do ask the receptionist if they have a deal. When we were there they offered a reduced price for breakfast which was ok. The breakfast was continental with an attempt to be health concious which might have worked if the fruits weren't smelling a bit funny in the morning heat.

Anyway, if you need a place to lay your weary limbs down after walking up and down the cobbled streets of Ciudad Monumental, this NH is not too bad. Caceres is charming even if it is a bit run down, and after a whole sunburnt day, a wide spacious super clean room to go back to is always comforting.

According to NH this is one of its "Collection" hotels. Indeed, we don´t doubt it occupies an old building with lots of history, but the poor quality materials (probably the cheapest possible conglomerate doors - the bathroom doors are chipping off because of the shower. The carpets are worn out and fake wooden floors) are really disappointing. One gets the impression that just by having Bang&Olufsen TV sets NH can get away with it.
HOwever, NH can still get away with this hotel due to its superb location right next to the old quarter.
The stay was OK - the only negative point other than the "materials" was the fact that we only had one bath towel (we were told to inform the front desk immediately... the only problem is that one does not usually count the number of towels provided when entering the room) and a group of hotel guests who were extremely noisy at aroung 3 am (better quality doors would have helped).

The restoration of this building is excelent. The location is at the old part of the city.
It was a pity that there was a construction site on the center and it was not possible to visit the old part of the city. Internet costs about 10€, it is not gratis.
There is no parking for the guests, and to find a parking spot on the old town it is not easy neither cheap.
