Stayed 5 nights at the Ambra as a base for Venice. Our room is very clean and althought it faces the main street is very quiet. Staff are pleasant and spoke English. Breakfast is Continental ( a roll with butter and Jam + coffee/tea ) or for a Supplement of 3 Euros you can have a buffet breakfast which is more substantial but no hot food. The Pizzeria round the corner has a good menu apart from pizza, and stays opened late. The food is good and cheaper than Venice, ate there twice.
The hotel is 15 mins walk from the station. If arriving after dark, head straight for the town centre which is the main road right opposite the station, it's not brightly lit but when you get right to the end, the Ambra could be seen lit up to guide you there.
Tickets to Venice is self service from a machine at the station, have the right coins as it does not give change. If making several trips to Venice it's best to get it from the machine at Santa Lucia (end station for Venice). Instructions available in English and tickets can be bought in advance and are valid for 2 months. It takes 25mins to Venice. Last train from Venice is 21.38hrs, the next one is around mid-night.
