“Multiple Rooms got broke in by Master Key - Definitely Unsafe”

We were with Ritz Tour staying at the hotel for two nights on Dec 24th and 25th. On Dec 25th, the group were scheduled to have dinner at the hotel at 6:30pm. One guest came down at around 7pm and notified us that someone had used a master key and went into her room. The guy told the guest that he was trying to answer a service call and quickly left right after.. Most guests went up to the rooms and checked for their belonging and many of us noticed our belongings had been touched on. My husband discovered the thief had taken all his cash from his waist pouch (about 2000 euro and 2000 US). All guests were panic and claimed to call the police. One hotel staff told us we should not call the police because he had no proof that we were telling the truth.....It ended up another hotel staff checked the video and did notice a man had broken in to many rooms one after another while the guests went down to have dinner, so police finally was called after almost 45 minutes later. On call hotel manager showed up almost an hour later. He reassued us he would file hotel insurance and should have no problem reimbursed our money back. Now that it's been a week after all of us get back to US from Italy. Two parties (including us) who had suffered loss had tried to contact the hotel manager trying to get a status update on the insurance claim. So far nobody has responded to us despite our multiple emails. We had written to the hotel manager in 3 seperate instances. We are completely disappointed not only the hotel was not safe at all, but the non-responsive manner that the hotel handled this matter. We do not know if the hotel did indeed file the insurance nor did we know if we would ever get our money back. No word no nothing. Ritz tour immediately said they were not liable but did say the hotel should be. I hope responsible party from Crown Plaza Venice would respond to our e mail once he looks at this. It is sad that I have to use this method to get the hotel attention, if any......the scary thing is the intruder was using a master key and can get to all the rooms. The other suspicious thing was one of the hotel staff actually tried to delay us from calling the police. On top, the hotel was not at all responsive to the suffered parties despite of numerous e mails to urge for follow up. Total disappointment.

“Fabulous Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Though we were on a Cruise, we booked this hotel on our own and it was fabulous.
So glad we stayed here...it's the last word in Venetian comfort and luxury with a 5 star class of service.
It is an hour's drive from the airport and almost the same to the port but we wanted to stay with the other passengers on our cruise.
We didn't get the free transportation and ended up paying 50 euros for our ride from the airport, as we arrived very late at night.
We were so pleased with every aspect of this hotel: staff, ambiance, our room, dining room etc.
I don't know much about location for tourist attractions but it was perfect for our purpose.

Room Tip: When the cruise line quotes a price for a room, pre-cruise, contact the hotel directly to see if you...

“Great Hotel Just Outside of Venice w/ free Airport Transportation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We only stayed at the Crowne Plaza for one night before we departed on a cruise out of Venice. The free transportation was incredibly helpful when arriving in a different country after a long flight. The hotel was immaculate! Everything was pristine and seemed brand new. We traveled with 3 other adult couples and everyone just loved the hotel. In fact, one of the couples canceled their hotel room in Venice on the last night to stay at the Crowne Plaza and take advantage of the clean rooms and free airport transporation.

The breakfast buffet was really great. They had a large selection to choose from --- from the Eurpoean-style meats/cheeses to eggs, breads, fruits, etc. On the day we were there (Saturday), the town the hotel is located in had a cute outdoor market a short walk away that was fun to see. The only criticism is that it is nice that they offer free internet in the lobby but there is only one computer in a large hotel so it is very difficult to get access.

“Outside of Venice but in a jewel of a town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Spent three nights at this hotel.
To get to this hotel you need to grab another train from Mestre train station to Quotro d'altino which is a 10 -15 minute train ride. The hotel is adjacent to the train station. Very convenient.
The staff is very helpful and pleasant. Referred us to a very nice family-owned restaurant in town.
Very nice small town. Safe.

Family room consists of two large connecting rooms.

Would come back again. My daughter's favorite hotel from our trip.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

Overall, I would not recommend this hotel until you are solely concerned about cost. After staying in Venice during my trip, I booked this hotel for my last night because I had an early morning flight and wanted to be closer to the airport.

After just missing a train in Mestre, I had to wait for 1 hour for the next train on a cold platform (and this during the evening rush hour). The train was packed so it was quite challenging to take the commuter train with my suitcase. Even though the hotel is 15 minutes away, you may spend a tremendous amount of time just waiting for the train.

The room was spacious, but generally, after staying in Crowne Plaza's on four continents, I would not say this hotel is up to the standards of a typical Crowne Plaza. It is closer to a Holiday Inn rather than a Crowne Plaza. The room was a bit dark with a view of a parking lot.

The breakfast was a nightmare. It was packed with tour groups. After waiting 5 minutes for a table, I was told that the only table available was at a rectangular communal table with two other people sitting at various ends of the table. The buffet also looked of low quality so I opted to forgo breakfast and head to the airport on an empty stomach. I had booked a room with breakfast so I asked the receptionist if she could remove the breakfast charge since I was not having breakfast. Her response was that I had to send an email with such a request, but since I prepared for the room it was not likely they could do anything. Given I have elite Priority Club status, I would have expected a more proactive response.

Again, the clientele for the hotel appears to be budget conscious tour groups. I would not recommend this hotel unless you really cannot afford a hotel in Venice proper. After visiting Venice, I realized that the public airport water bus is highly accessible and affordable and appeared to be underutilized in most instances so proximity to the airport does not justify staying so far outside of Venice and going through these hassles.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us a feedback on your experience of your stay at our hotel. We do apologize for any inconvenience occurred to you.

Regarding the train issue, as you may have noticed, our hotel is connected with Venice by more than 60 train rides a day, however, there was a bigger gap the time you arrived to the train station of Mestre, so we do feel sorry to find your self obliged all this time for the next available train.

Concerning the uncomfortable breakfast, we usually provide a separate breakfast room for the groups in order to guarantee the highest service for the individual guests. We inform you that your comments have been noted, and discussed with our Executive Chef, who assured to take actions in order to avoid this kind of issue in the future.

Please accept our sincere apologies. The high level of service should be our strength and not a weakness. Once again we take your comments very serious and we strive for immediate action on improvement in the concerned departments. Also we do look forward to welcoming you back in our hotel in order to show our commitments and be able to restore your faith back in our hotel.

Sincerely,

Fulvio Danesin, General Manager
