Me and my girlfriend wanted to go to Rome and were on something of a budget, so after much deliberation we plumped for the G Hotel in Pomezia. Not really sure of what or where 'Pomezia' was, assuming it was an area, much like a 'Kensington' is in London. The location on the map seemed manageable, so we went for it. On arrival at the airport, we asked a few questions on how to get to Pomezia and everyone seemed clueless! Not a great start! We ended up getting a taxi, which in Rome charges you there and back, and it ended up costing over 100euros! Even worse start.
Settled into the hotel, which is modern and functional... and although the staff weren't fantastic, they were by no means unhelpful.
Our bad luck continued with a public strike on our first day, which when staying in Pomezia, is fatal. No buses to or from Rome... so we spent the day at the hotel watching DVD's!
The buses were back on the next day and tickets could be purchased at a very cheap price from the shop nearby. They ran until late at night and as long as you dont mind a bit of time on public transport (buses and metro) it was perfectly acceptable. We knew it would be like this before travelling so didnt mind. The only downside to this is that we had to leave Rome by 10:30pm to make sure we got the last bus, which we nearly missed once!
A fine hotel, just a poor location next to a busy main road and not all that close to Rome itself. I would strongly recommend staying within the boundaries of the ring road that runs around Rome, this way you wouldnt limit yourself to being so reliant on public transport and could enjoy the truely wonderful city of Rome 24hours a day!
