“shared balcony not good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

Although we knew what to expect with the hotel and where it was, we weren't expecting it to be quite as down at heel as it was especially being rated a four star hotel.
The bar Staff and Maids were really friendly but as for the reception positively rude most times we had to go there. This is only a little matter but where the hotel is situated we thought they may have sold stamps as they did sell post cards but know we spent nearly two days trying to a phone card, because Letojanni is quite small nowhere appeared to have any eventually we did find a tabaconnist in one of the little back streets. Back to the hotel the food was always cold or luke warm and because Thomson told us this is how the Italians eat there food (which I'm sure is absolutely rubbish)nobody complains. We went into Taormina which is 20minutes by bus, very expensive just a smaller version of Oxford street with its designer shops. All in all I found the Italians very rude in this part of Sicily not all of them of course but I don't like being followed around a shop and then told I can't go somewhere because there sweeping it out, they didn't get a sale that day from me. Although Sicily is a lovely country I wouldn't go back to this side again perhaps over to the west . I think we will stick to our original Holiday destination which was Croatia Lovely.

“Fantastic view, shared terrace between rooms excellent”

Never stayed at an all inclusive hotel before (done cruises), so we were not sure what to expect. The hotel is well positioned and it requires a lift and a small cable car to get to our check-in. This is probably the only downside.
Staff were polite and they kept a hot buffet for late arrivers on the first day - a nice touch. Fruit, wine and water in our room on arrival.
Food was good and different every day - pasta lovers are well catered for - but other foods as well. We found the restaurant in the Antares hotel smaller and more friendly (the lower hotel, the shared Olimpo and Terrazze restaurant always seemed to be busy with coach parties and functions). This is a 3 hotel complex and to some extent the facilities are interchangeable.
Room excellent - we went with friends and did not opt for a seaview and instead got a really good large patio / balcony we could share. 4 rooms have access. It was very large - and well planted with flowers (photo attached). Each room had a patio set to use.
Bars throughout the complex excellent - and the all inclusive option meant free drinks wherever you were on the complex - beera dnwine up to 6 and spirits afterwards. But be advised the spirits does not include gin or whisky - only local spirits.
Two good pools and sunloungers etc. Taormina a shortish taxi ride - but it is very expensive there. For a day out somehwere else, apart from excursions we went to Guardini de Naxos - you can get a bus outside. Great beachside restaurants and bars.
It was an excellent week of relaxation, we were well looked after and the weather was superb. I would go back to the hotel, but we saw the parts of Sicily we wanted to see.

“Nice hotel spoilt”

The Hotel Olimpo-terrazze is set high up in rocks and commands lovely views towards Taomina. The gardens at the front of the hotel are very well kept, and the rooms are clean and functional. Now for the down-side, The food is simply appalling, there is very little choice each night and the vegetables in the buffet were always cold. They have in the middle of the buffet a microwave oven to reheat your food if you so wish, this we found strange, if the food was hot enough in the first place, you wouldn't need it reheating. The desserts were nearly always cream laden, and there were two wedding receptions there in the week and the left over wedding cake(s) appeared next day in the buffet (talk about waste not, want not). The breakfast too was tired looking, and some of the rolls from the night before were there (so not very fresh). Our room was clean and functional, but the balcony was lacking fresh paint and the only plants outside were weeds! So it seems that the front gardens were lovely but out the back was left to go to seed. Letojanni resort is a scruffy place that needs a good clean. The beach has a lot of litter on it and the streets are litter strewn.Taormina is a nice little town, but very expensive, nearly all the shops are designer ware, we struggled to find a decent food shop. If you are going to Sicily then I would avoid this part of the coast and probably go to the west side.

“An excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2008

We stayed for a total of three nights at this hotel as part of a tour. The Hotel is clean, well maintained and the staff polite and helpfull. The rooms are a good size with coffee/tea making facilities and great views.

The hotel was built in 1998 but has a 50s feel to the design which we thought was great. There is a large outside pool and several terraces with views over the Mediterranean where one can sit and relax.

The large dining room had buffet style dining with a wide range of well presented food choices and a good inexpensive wine list.

Access to the hotel is with a lift and a funicular railway which caused problems in busy periods with queues for the lift, however it is possible to walk down to the town at the bottom with little difficulty.

Letojanni is a small seaside village with a few cafes and a beach. Ii was very quiet when we were there but probably fills up in the summer with residents from Palermo escaping the heat.

There are rail and bus links from the town along the coast, it is very close to Taormina a much larger town with a number of shops and restaurants and some lovely gardens.

I would recomend this hotel as a place to relax or as a touring centre for the east coast of Sicily.

“Fantastic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2006

We have just come back from Sicily having spent 7 relaxing days at Antares/ Olimpo hotel. We arrived on the train (Which incidently was only 6.30 euros for two singles!!) from Catania Central station and the hotel was a short walk from the Letojanni station (although not very well signposted - you can ask for directions, take a right out of the station down the road for about 5 mins go under the bridge on the right and you will come out by the gates of the hotel).
The hotel has a fantastic view of the sea, Isola Bella and Mazzaro in the distance set against huge cliffs and hills, there are two outdoor swimming pools, the Olimpo pool being far superior at the top with bar and pizza restaurant, plus a couple more restaurants indoors serving a mix of buffet foods, we only ate there once but found it good value.
Our room was large and clean with balcony and superior views of the sea, the connecting doors to other rooms meant you could hear muffled talking from next door, but generally it was peaceful. The world cup has been on while we have been away and the hotel has been providing coverage of it in its bars and occasionally in the out door theater, where we spent a good number of nights meeting new people and chatting to the head bar man Antonio who made great cocktails!
The best restaurant in Letojanni would have to be De Ninos, a bit on the pricey side but serves excellent sicilian food in romantic setting by the sea front.
The hotel also provide a free shuttle service to Mazzaro at the bottom of Taormina, where you can take a scenic cable car up to the town itself or explore the clear beaches of Isola Bella - bring a snorkel! We found usng local buses and trains really simple and a cheap and scenic way to see Sicily.

The heat in Sicily in June is incredible and I would strongly urge you not to forget to put on sun screen and hats! I don't envy anyone using the glass hotel cable car in August, we pored with sweat inside its clear walls between 8am and 10 at night!

We highly recommend this hotel, great for couples and families! It will also cure you of any fear of heights!
