We were hoping for a view of the Neckar river, after all that's what the name means! However, the view from the room was of the large industrial facility in the Neckar valley. The river is right below the hotel so only visible if you lean out of the dining room's window. There is also a railway line right below the hotel which has trains all night long so that was not very restful. Neither was the ancient clock radio built into the bed headboard which produced a pronounced ticking all night that couldn't be silenced. However, the worst thing was the lack of cleanliness in the bathroom which was mouldy and rusty in equal amounts. There was a 'Hotel Inspector' programme on the TV and the German presenter was going on about the disgusting state of an Italian hotel and the images were exactly the same as the Neckarblick's bathroom!
We were driving back from staying in B&Bs in Austria/Germany where we had been paying 50 Euros for pristine rooms and generous breakfast buffets so when the bill for the Neckarblick came to over 100 Euros we were stunned.
It billed itself as a "Hotel Garni" but the restaurant was not open and the facilities were definitely below the standard one would expect of a basic B&B.
The actual town of Bad Wimpfen is, however, an historical gem with fantastically preserved half-timbered buildings and good value, home cooked food available at a variety of restaurants so do visit - just don't stay at the Neckarblick!
