“Once upon a time maybe, but not any more!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We booked a night including access to the spa.

We arrived at check-in around 1 PM. The (very friendly) lady was surprised we had not been contacted to schedule our access to the spa, and the timeslot we wanted to use the facilities was fully booked. We found a way at another time, and adapted our planned activities to facilitate this different timeslot. Other beauty services advertised in the hotel, which my wife wanted to use, were not available.

I had booked a non smoking, very quiet room. The first room we were booked into, room 236, was stinking of smoke. Regardless of smoking-non smoking rooms, everyone knows that many people who smoke do not respect smoking rules. We changed to room 234, which was faintly smelling of smoke, and strongly of room perfume/deodorant sprays to cover smells. We were there for other things then visiting several rooms until finding one that corresponded to our reservation, so opened the windows and left for our other activities.

The spa was nice, but not the most brilliant we've seen.

The bathroom is just plain filthy, with moulds, and the room cleanliness in general is bad with dustwebs along ceiling, dust along the corners, behind the heating (there is an electrical heating unit in the room while there is aircon). Some pictures (taken with phone, not the best quality) to show the state the room was in. Thank god the bed was fresh & clean!

Time to go to bed, we noticed that even though the airconditioning was turned off, it was making noise, a low hum which you don't notice during the day, but when night comes brings a humming noise like if you're in an airplane.

The breakfast is sort of mandatory since you're 20 km away from a feasible bakery (if you'd want to opt out that is), and it is below par. Synthetic fruit juices, jams, ham that looked like it had been there for days (we were at breakfast at 8:30). Some good cakes and 1 bread that was half descent.

The environment is fantastic with the golf court, the woodlands, nearby lake, etc. But that can be accessed by staying at other hotels in the area as well.

We didn't book the hotel to complain, change 10 times to another room until there is one which is clean, quiet and doesn't smell, or be faced with the spa unavailability. We were there to relax and do things, so decided not to go to reception and loose time complaining. When we checked-out, the lady at reception didn't even inquire if our stay had been OK, so we didn't bother. Customer service or interest in customer well-being doesn't seem to be their priority. They are smiling friendly, but that's where it ends.

People on tripadvisor should be informed though.

Overall: it didn't represent the value we paid for, it didn't represent Best Western, it was unclean, uninterested in customer well-being and we would not recommend this place based on our experience. Maybe once upon a time it has been a great hotel of standard, now it is not even sub-par in our experience.

Room Tip: room 236 smelled of pungeant smoke, room 234 smelled of light smoke and pungeant room deodorant, was...

“Good stop-over option. Pets welcome.”

Troyes is a place many people aim for as a stop-off when shuttling between the Alps or the Med and Calais. This hotel is a few kms off the motorway but is worth considering as an alternative to the roadside motels.

On the plus side (for us, anyway) are the fact it welcomes dogs - so no problem taking them out for a quick walk in the vast grounds surrounding the hotel - it has triple/family rooms (useful when there are five of you to accommodate) and it has plentiful private parking.

No downside really, apart from the fact that the hotel restaurant isn't cheap but the food is good - with a great dessert buffet.

I'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Our triple and double were on different floors. Ask if you need them together.

“Very nice hotel, avoid dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We had a short but pleasant stay.
Rooms were great, very spacious and clean. Free wifi in the room, coffee maker kit, nice view. The property is lovely and situated in the middle of the lovely national park.
Breakfast was also good, large selection. would have been nice to have also fresh vegetables.
The problem was dinner. It was a waste of money. Starters buffet was almost empty and costed 11 euros per person. They kept promising to fill it up but by the time they did it was too late for us as we were already eating the main courses. Main courses were ok but too expensive. we skipped the desserts buffet as it looked really bad.
So our dinner expirance was bad and we wouldn't reccomend it.

“Lovely stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

Stayed at this hotel for a stopover and was very surprised at how nice it was as only 3 stars.
The breakfast was good, the bedroom was very clean and extremely comfortable. We didn't eat in the restaurant as so tired from our drive but it looked very popular with the other residents.

I would definitely book this again.
