“Poor Service and Terrible Restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

When we first arrived things seemed ok, the room seemed what you would expect. However, the room was cold and the heating didn't seem to work but as we were staying for one night and had a long journey it didn't seem worth complaining. On going to bed the mattress on one side sagged.

The restaurant was overpriced and extremely poor quality for the food. The service was awful, the restaurant didn't open till 7pm so we thought we would get a drink in the bar before eating but we waited at the bar a while and no-one came to serve us despite a number of hotel employees seeing us standing at the bar which was supposed to be open but they did nothing. We decided to go back to the room and wait till we could eat. When seated for dinner the waiter took our room number and asked if we wanted the food charged to our room which we agreed to. During our dinner, service was also poor and when we had finished feeling very disappointed at our overpriced very poor meal and there was no waiter in sight for ages we decided to return to our room. A few minutes later we had a telephone call from the waiter which we couldn't really understand and he ended up coming up to the room. We said that they could charge the food to the room but he didn't seem happy with this. We were then 'frog marched' down to reception like criminals to pay the extortionate amount for our food and were told by the waiter 'this isn't my job I work in the restaurant not the hotel'.

We had a long journey the following day and so got up in time to get breakfast the earliest we could at 6.30am. We went into the restaurant for breakfast and found a typical selection of continental food. There was also a hot plate which said it contained eggs, bacon and sausage etc but there wasn't any there and there were no chefs in the kitchen for the whole 30 minutes that we sat there to have breakfast. Equally the supposedly boiling water for tea, and hot milk were both not hot more tepid.

As a hotel to just rest you head and nothing else it is ok. But usually after any sort of journey you need food and after walking around the area it is clear that there are no other places to eat or see there and so you really have no choice but to eat at the hotel. Location isn't great at all you would need transport to go somewhere. This was paid for by the company as an overnight stay for a business trip and therefore location to us didn't really matter. However, if you were sight seeing or going for holiday then this is a poor location.

“Travelsphere Parisian Delights”

Went on this trip with Travelshpere at the end of September 2011. Hotel was acceptable, room comfortable, breakfast good. We were offered an opportunity to dine on the two evenings as part of a tour. It was well worth the money and very enjoyable, one in Monmatre and the othet in the Latin Quarter. If we did not have the coach to transfer us into the city, this hotel would have been a bit out of the way.
Saw all of the usual sights and there was some time allowed to visit monuments etc. Although you would need a longer stay to visit in depth. Versalles was great and a trip into the town at Versailles, in particular the market, is recommended. Only dampener on the holiday was that the coach was puilled in by customs and it added over an hour to the journey home. Other than that, brilliant.

“"what a dump..."”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We stayed here mid October for 3 days. Absolutely no acknowledgement of Priority Club Gold. We had to change rooms 3 times. First room was a disgrace. We were changed to a second room where ---BELIEVE IT OR NOT-- the left side of the bed had an EXTREME dent in it about a foot wide and the whole length of the bed. This was supposedly an executive room. Tell me nobody knew about this bed. The hotel was practically empty and yet we were still expected to sleep on that thing !! When we mentioned this to the girl at check out she did not even apologise. Very sad.

Room Tip: If you want a good room choose another hotel !!!

“Weeken in Paris”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Stayed at this hotel for weekend ending 23rd October.
I was a lttle apprehensive as having read some of previous reviews they gave a slightly offputting pictureparticularly re the staff.
Well for me they were wrong, the staff were friendlyand always had a smile and if you tried to use schooldays french seemed to appreciate the effort.
Our room was fairly large, clean, bright and bathroom was well appointed, the fittings appearing to be quite new.
We ate in the restaurant one night and have to say the food was well cooked, tasty, and the rstaurant staff quite friendly. Of course you are in a hotel so prices are going to be higher than you would normally pay, but if you enjoy the food a few extra Euros are not going to be missed.
About the only problem we had was that the tea making facilities in the room were stocked with Lemon tea bags and carton milk, if you ask at bar they will give you a small jug of milk but asking for an ordinary tea bag promted the response that they had to be paid for!!
Breakfast was well catered for, however depending on where you sit you may be some distance from the buffet and therefore have to make several lengthy trips to and from the buffet.
I would probably agree with comments that hotel is not 4*, or at least not what would be expected in the UK.

Room Tip: There are currently some building works in progress so sek one away from this, however we were there...

“Deluded hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

I have thought long and hard about the star rating for my review and feel that its really a 2.5*. At first we were reasonably impressed with the hotel. Room seemed Ok, bed comfortable, bar Ok, nice court yard with trees, plants , tables, chairs and water feature. We were on the second floor - quite some way from the lift. On reflection the decor was very tired and very brown/orange. The corridors long and dull. No hint of design. In fact the Premier Inn I had stayed in the week before was much better and certainly cleaner. When we arrived we noticed that the room had a certain musty smell - that seemed to fade once we opened the window and got the aircon going- I shall return to that!
We were staying at the hotel on a Leger break to go to see the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp. We had never been on a coach tour before and I don't think we will rush to do one again. The three coaches we went on were all pretty new and very comfortable - for coaches! . The change overs at Dover and on the way back at Calais took a while but were managed efficiently. The coach had picked us up in Devon pretty much on time and was only 10 minutes after the advertised time on the way back- so that seemed good. But, and its a big but, with all the pick ups there and back - you are on the coach for a very long time and there was at times - too much enforced jollity. Fortunately we just put our headphones on and shut it all out - we are sociable but we are not children who need to be shepherded here there and everywhere.
On the coach we were told that the hotel restaurant would be closed by the time we arrived and they didn't know what would be available nearby. So at the service station we loaded up with some food - we had eaten on the ferry and thought this would ok. However when we reached the hotel food was still being served
The next day was a free choice day - either trips to Paris organised by Leger or you could take the coach to Paris and do your own thing. Given that the hotel is only 9 kilometres from Versailles I prebooked our tickets and we decided to take a taxi there. Prebooking was a good idea because we did not have to queue and it was the hottest October Saturday anybody could remember. Getting the hotel to order a taxi was a very bad idea - it arrived with 12 euros already on the clock and the whole journey cost over 40 euros. To get back we picked up a taxi at the rank out side the Palace- cost 22 euros!
In the evening we decided to eat in one of the local restaurants rather than take the coach to Paris - we found a lovely Moroccan one just down the road. Tasty food, very large helpings and friendly staff.
Next day was race day - that was fine -we were there early and could enjoy ourselves without any bossing around! We had a good time. On our arrival at the hotel on the Friday we had been told that when we came back from the race course they did not know which restaurants would be open locally and we should book a table in the hotel - we did this when we arrived. I don't think that was a good idea. We wandered into the main part and stood around for some time before the waiter even looked up from what he was writing- he was then totally confused about our booking. A second waiter then came along and looked just as confused. Eventually we were shown to a table in the main restaurant. The service was quite slow and the food very expensive - I am a vegetarian - always tricky in France but it seemed hopeless that night - so elected to have a pizza - 16 euros for a pizza which I could have bought for 3£ in the UK and a few leaves. Creme brulee was surprisingly tasty. In common with some other reviewers we could see that we were getting better service once we had tried out our basic French. They wilfully refused to understand a few of the older couples who didn't make an effort. Personally it was wrong on both sides - we should at least try a few words - we did and it was worth it not to get the strange looks and wrong orders! However we did notice that one of the other Leger coaches seemed to have taken over the breakfast room and were being given a fixed menu deal - most of our party seemed to be in the bar - just having snacks. only about 6 couples went to the main restaurant. Breakfast was actually ok - plenty of it and a reasonable choice - thankfully loads of fruit. But we really didnt like this aspect of caoch travel - down to breakfast at same time with everybody else - and at a very early hour. There was shortage of choice on the last day - however we all had to be there by 6.15 so its probably understandable.
I felt because we were on the coach tour we were treated as second class citizens. The mini bar was even locked!
Back to the musty smell - after our expensive hotel meal we went back to our room and I noticed that the carpet on my side on the bed was very wet - as far as we could see there must have been a leak from the bath and the water was seeping into our room. I called reception and within minutes the girl came up to check, She immediately offered us another room - however as we were only going to spend another 6 hours there we decided not to change rooms. Instead she broughtt up a load of towels to put over the damp area. She deserves full marks for her prompt actions.
To sum up - hotel thinks it's four star but it's nowhere near as comfortable/ reasonable or pleasant as a premier inn. The food is probably better at a Premier Inn> Coach trips are not for us

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the courtyard can be noisey
