“An Excellent Hotel Experience.......at a Bargain Price!”

Last week I was in Le Touquet. It was a flying visit, as I was en route to Le Mans. It was really more of a flying visit than a holiday trip. We both love Le Touquet and had previously stayed at a small, privately-owned "boutique" hotel there, right in the centre of the town, but the rooms were very tiny and it had started to get very shabby on the last couple of visits, so we decided to look elsewhere. My friend suggested the Holiday Inn which is situated in the forest at Le Touquet. He had stayed there before and said it was very good. I was not convinced as I had the idea Holiday Inns were perfectly functional but more of the "motel" kind of hotel. Anyway, I agreed to try it. We were greeted by the reception staff who were extremely friendly and efficient. The room itself was lovely. It was very large indeed, with one complete wall of floor to ceiling windows overloking the greenery and peace of the forest outside. There was a very large marble bathroom and a separate sizeable entrance lobby, which gave the room the feel of a suite, even though it was not. Everything was immaculate and there seemed to be flowering orchid plants everywhere! The bed was huge and incredibly comfortable and the room was so peaceful and quiet. We were so impressed that we booked to stay on our return trip from Le Mans, which was for the "day after next". When we returned to the hotel two days later, we were greeted like old friends by the young man on reception! We were allocated the same lovely large room and this time we decided not to go out to dinner, but to try the restaurant in the hotel, as we had covered a lot of miles on the French motorways in just a couple of days and were too tired to go out in Le Touquet itself. The food was excellent - we both had fish, I had the cod and my friend had the salmon and neither could be faulted. They were super-fresh, deliciously and imaginatively prepared and the service at dinner was excellent even though the resturant was very quiet. Whilst waiting for the chef to prepare our food, we were served a complimentary serving of soup, which turned out to be a shrimp bisque topped off with cream, served hot in a small glass with a thick straw. It was the best shrimp bisque either of us had ever tasted - perfectly balanced with an intense shrimp flavour - totally delicious! After another perfectly peaceful night's sleep, as we headed back to England, we promised the charming staff on reception we will be back soon.......and we undoutedly will! We are just hoping the shrimp bisque will still be on the menu!

“Spoilt by bad information”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

This is a nice hotel just outside the town but that makes for easy parking, not always true of other hotels in the area. We picked it because of the swimming pool and arrived to find a notice tell us they were closing it that day for week. They had known about the closure for weeks but couldn't be bothered to tell their prospective customers.

“Very pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Stayed here just two nights while on a relaxing break/pick up wine for Christmas trip ! Had just a standard double room but more than adequate for the short times we spent in it. Good choice at the buffet breakfast and we also enjoyed the set meal in the restaurant the first night. We took a taxi into town the second night due to mild disability problems in our party but could easily have walkied if fit. Though the peaceful wooded area it was in may have been a bit spooky in places in the dark if a lone couple.
Our friends tried the pool and rated it very good. We didn't try the gym.

“Great Nights Sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Having cruised the web for a good deal for four of us seasoned travellers we booked the Holiday Inn having stayed there last year.
Its not cheap getting a hotel room in Le Touquet we could'nt get in at the Westminster who could only offer a sub standard "cosy room" although when we went there for a drink I noticed only two rooms were in use completely empty hotel ???Why no offer of a room at a discount ??
Anyway the report on the Holiday Inn overall very good, really clean and great beds and white soft linen, a superb place to sleep.
The small downside is that the bar is to bright and very poor, and the 17 Euro breakfast is awful , the eggs and bacon and sausage all stone cold, and dried out, dreadful tasteless coffee, not worth the walk to the breakfast room, but still a good place to stay.
Another down side is that they charge for use of the house PC 8Euro for 15 mins, I think when paying several hundred euro to stay it would not be to much to have use of the web for free, I understand they do offer free wireless connection, but if you leave your lap top at home you have to pay, very mean !!
Make sure you get a deal on the room rate, its then really good value.

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

“Perfect hotel for business events”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Updated and really clean room and bathroom. Rooms on lower level have sliding door with outside access. Bedrooms decoration is really nice, but bathrooms are really simple and with poor lighting.
Décor inside hotel could use an update, still stuck in the 80s.
All white bedding, really confortable mattress, free internet access. Really poor gym equipment.
No iron in room (had to negotiate really hard to get one for one hour, and when I finally got it, it was without ironing table…)
Hotel restaurant is really good. Excellent deserts.
Hotel staff is excellent and super helpful.
Perfect hotel for business events.
