We stayed at the Scandic Bygholm Parkhotel for 2 nights in autumn of 2001. We had booked 3 nights but were lucky to be able to switch to a better hotel for the third night. The hotel is an old manor-house situated in a large well-maintained park about 15 min walk from the center of Horsens. The park is quite safe for walks: little lakes, children feeding ducks etc. Very lovely. The hotel is marketed as an "environmentally correct" hotel. We discovered that this means the the light bulbs in the room are 25w which made it impossible to read neither maps nor books in the room. To conserve energy the water only ran luke-warm in both sink and shower. To conserve water, the water came out in a slow trickle. The room was quite expensive, but small, tiny, actually. We had trouble fitting in both suitcases. Room decor? None. The breakfast buffet had, somewhat surprisingly, run out of of "rundstykker" (breakfast rolls) when we had breakfast. More surprisingly: we witnessed one of the employees in the kitchen (a young boy) scurrying through the breakfast restaurant, knocking the glasses off the face of an elderly female guest, laughing and disappearing into the kitchen again. The food in the restaurant is average, the waiters sourly bordering rude, but the dining rooms were decorated beautifully. If we ever go back to Horsens, we'll pick another hotel.
