My wife and I thought we had found the perfect weekend break destination. This was our first hotel stay with our 9-month old boy so we were feeling a bit apprehensive. Everything was great for the first two nights of our stay: the staff was helpful and friendly, the location is peaceful and the pool was a big hit with our son. The restaurant looks impressive but was fully booked for our entire stay. We ate in the bar and were well looked after.
Unfortunately, the third night was a disaster. It turns out that the hotel hosts wedding parties most weekends during the summer and these parties include loud disco music until 3.30am. We were quite close to the function room area and the music kept all three of us awake for hours. I complained to the night porter but there was not much he could do. (It turned out that the managing director of the hotel was a guest at the party)
To be fair, I spoke to the manager the next day and she was apologetic and deducted the night’s stay from our bill. But that’s not really the point: the website talks of “moments of utter peace and quiet” and a “reinvigorating night’s rest” – this doesn’t really gel with the 3am Technotronic soundtrack.
Overall it is very hard not to recommend this hotel as it has so much going for it. But if you are looking for a quiet weekend retreat, call ahead and ask if there is a wedding party planned.
We probably won’t be going back. Our search for the perfect weekend break destination continues!
