The hosts Oliver and Alex go out of thier way to make this a great place to stay for a ski holiday. You are greeted and treated as good friends. The 3 course evening meal taken in the resturant overlooking the street is just first class, beautifully presented and easilly washed down with a good selection of house wines!! Breakfast is served in the bar and consists of cereal, fruit, ham, cheese and bread plus bacon and eggs. There is also apres ski tea and cakes if you make it back from the umbrella bar at the bottom of the red run home in time!!

The bar is well stocked on both the beer and shorts front and has a good atmosphere in the evening as local non residents eat and drink in it as well

We had room 5 on the second floor which had an en sutite shower plus tea and coffee facilities. It was cleaned each day and a nice additional touch was changing all the towels mid week. TV in the room had one english channel (CNN) Lots of books and DVDs available and the hotel has a great heated ski kellar with boot warmers

The location of Haus salzburg is a 10 minute walk from the red run home. In the opposite direction you have the beginners slope in Hinterthal and a separate blue/ red to progress onto - again accessed from the village. The ski hire shop is across the road!!

We feel this resort is best suited to confident intermediates / year 3+ skiers. For example when you get the main chair out of town, you have a choice of 3 reds at the top for your first run in the morning. The confidence building blues within the Hochkonig ski reigion are located at the far ends of the piste plan and you have to ski reds to get to them. Having said that the reds are wide and not too busy with only a few tricky sections near the bottom. The run back to Hinterthal is a narrow red or a black - but you can get the chair down.

So if you are a good skier who appreciates great food in a welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to stay for trying out the Hochkonig region before Crystal and Neilson find it!!
