Thinking of spending some time in a fabulous Austrian village? Try the Almerwirt in Maria Alm. The staff is helpful and interested in all your activities. We went on a parasailing expedition and they were so concerned that they actually called the pilot to make sure everything went well and we were all safe! Rooms are spacious, immaculately cleaned and we dined on excellent breakfasts and dinners daily for a very reasonable price. Hike or bike right from the front door; bus services the entire valley and you can easily explore all the surrounding villages without renting a car. Quaint village offers plenty of shopping, excellent restaurants (try the Wildbach beside the river- the best!) and a great church with plenty of history. Jufen alm is a great beginner's hike, complete with excellent food, petting zoo, the best archery course we have ever seen and views to make you speechless. A chair lift leaves right from the village to link you to numerous trails for all those that prefer downhill hiking or better yet, rent one of their bikes and explore the numerous mountain options. The village does not offer a lot of night life but we were lucky to enjoy a local band, austrian dances and alpenhorns in the town square one evening. A great place to stay!
