“Surprised!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Having hunted around on the internet for somewhere to go for a last minute weekend break I finally picked the Best Western over another hotel in the local area.

On arrival the hotel was clean, tidy and well presented with ample literature on the local area which came in handy for the following day.

The room was well appointed and clean with plenty of towels and freebies. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep with no interruptions.

The 'rain shower' was great and would love one at home now!

All in all, a great hotel which offered superb value for money and in a good location to explore the local area. Highly recommend driving through Rockingham, turning around and seeing the castle from the bottom of the hill up...

Will visit again in the summer.

“New Year Festivities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Had a very good value 2 night package through Superbreak including bed, breakfast, dinner and dancing 1st night and then the New Year's Eve Buffet ( food was ample and well presented ) dancing and disco. All good fun, catering to the more mature guest, the function room was packed and as a couple we were seated on a table of 8 who were all locals and this was the 3rd time they had booked for New Year, which is a good sign. As Corby has a large Scottish community there was definitely a real " Hogmanay " feel about the proceedings with haggis, neeps and tatties on the menu and a piper playing a whole rendition of the Highland classics guaranteed to get your hands clapping, your toes tapping and your throat warbling !!.
The hotel itself was fine, rooms clean, beds comfortable, ample free parking,Staff were friendly, Clare on reception was helpful when we changed rooms and as a Best Western Rewards member was efficient when we checked in/out.Would recommend for New Year package as a couple or group or other " themed week-ends " they promote.

Room Tip: Ground floor if mobility issues

“Pity about the bar fight”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Had the misfortune to be stay there whilst the remnants of a private party decided to end their evening in the only bar in the hotel. Most of them were drunk, loud and using very foul language and a fight ensued between drunken members of the party. Nothing was said to these louts by the hotel staff and in fact they continued to serve them with alcohol.

The hotel itself is acceptable but souless and needs freshening up, it doesn't look as though any money has been spent on it since it was built in the 60's. The bedroom cleanliness was disappointing, there were glass/drink marks on both bedside cabinets. The food in the restaurant was better than I expected but this wasn't too hard to achieve as we were the only diners. Breakfast at £16 is expensive for a hotel with no stars.

As usual a lack of attention to detail/disinterest by hotel management was evident, to turn on the table light was awkward unless you happen to be a contortionist; there wasn't a switch and the socket was difficult to get to as it was underneath the dressing table/desk. It's not too hard to get things right is it. Like most budget hotels they work on the maxim that customers will put up with any old rubbish, yes but only once.

Room Tip: Avoid room 303. The carpet was filthy and badly stained. There was no hot water in the taps or showe...

“Totally acceptable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

Have stayed three times at the Rockingham Forest Hotel whilst attending events at Rockingham Castle which is a mere 250 metres away. On arrival the Reception Desk were most welcoming and helpful but no luggage trolleys or porterage - an old service trolley was found and it did the job.
A pleasant large room overlooking the car park, never experienced any problem with noise even with the window open.
The Hotel can be very busy with special events and functions but never found this a problem.
We had an inclusive rate which included dinner and breakfast - service was prompt and pleasant and the food, without being exceptional, was completely acceptable and generous portions.
The Hotel was clean and had been recently refurbished.
We will be visiting again

“Nice place... just too noisy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

First things first... sat nav misled me! Not the best start, but managed to find the hotel relatively easily thanks to mobile phones & google maps, so problem solved. (Misty, dark evenings perhaps not the best place to search for a hotel in new territory).

No problems with staff or reception. We arrived Friday night, left Sunday morning. Reception were pleasant, had access to the free WiFi (reception very helpful with a silly problem we had connecting). The room had a large, comfortable bed, television, and as others have said, the rain shower was actually really nice (though I admit I was slightly dubious at first!).

Some floors are a bit creaky, but hey ho, thats neither here nor there. Breakfast wasn't bad, nice selection, again friendly staff. The rooms were clean, though our room wasn't cleaned on the Saturday, but as we'd been in it all morning, I guess nobody came back around in the afternoon - can't really complain about that! We had one major problem: noise. We were in a room overlooking the front and main car park. The hotel has two walls against the car park; one of rooms, and one with reception, and the Rockingham Suite further on.

Night 1 we worked out there was a charity do of some description on from guests arriving at the same time as us for it; not really a problem until after midnight when we were tucked up in bed, attempting to sleep. Car noise isn't an issue; it was the noise of people standing in the car park/outside for a cigarette, talking loudly/shouting. Perhaps 2am by the time the noise ceased enough to enable sleep?

I completely respect the need to run other functions etc to make the hotel profitable.. but if you're going to do that, a little sound proofing would be very helpful. Night 2 I think (judging from a car parked outside the Rockingham Suite) there was a wedding. It was about 2.20am this time the noise finally ceased, with a lot more drunken shouting making the previous night look tame. Couple this with a 'couple' trying to get into their room opposite talking very loudly not long later, then slamming doors at 3.30am, leading to another nights poor sleep.

The only other minor issue was the temperature; with the radiator off the room still got very hot and stuffy, the only solution being to open the windows, which was fine in the daytime, but not really an option at night. I'm not sure but the windows didn't seem very thick, so perhaps the problem with noise coming in?

Location is about 2 minutes from a Dominoes Pizza, Greggs, Aldi and fuel station, so not too bad a place. Stay was enjoyable enough, and location fine; if there were quieter rooms, I would go back. Lack of sleep really puts a downer on a weekend away; I admit I'm a light sleep, but even my partner was kept awake which is unusual for him! Overall review: a nice place, lovely rooms, friendly staff - but too noisy!

Room Tip: From our experience, don't get a room overlooking the main/front car park!
