“hogmanay at the bruce”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

Dont really want the whole world to know about this cos it might make it a bit more difficult to book next year but the staff do so well they deserve a mention. this was our 4th year at the bruce at hogmanay and as usual had a tremendous night. 16 of us all accomodated at the one table,so well organised, food great, music, now you may not think the rooms are'right up there' but i think jim and the team do a fantastic job on what is the busiest night of the year.Another reason that we keep going back is the bar prices are the same as usual and not 'hiked' because your a captured, and you can get bar service without a hitch. Again my compiments guys, see u at new year.

“If you are looking for a good nights sleep you won't find it here”

This hotel is a nightmare as it has a night club in the basement. The music booms on every night until the early hours of the morning (around 3am). You can hear every lyric from your room and to top it all when it does stop the clubbers spill out making even more noise!..enough said.

“Never again what a shabby place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

The rooms were antiquated, small and badly furnished, no smoke alarms or extractor fan in the tiny bathroom. Left without toilet rolls on the second day and never any hot water. Nowhere to sit in the lounge and to get a drink was a nightmare, no staff around unless you went to fetch someone, prices way over the top compared to other hotels visited.

Breakfast was a shambles, not everyone wants to sit at a communal table! Food ran out and was cold and sloppy. A system of first come. first served seemed to operate.

Very noisy from Night club below which went on until the early hours of the morning. Nightmare!!!!

“Sad place redeemed by great staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

We stayed at this hotel for a work function. Our hearts sank (to put it mildly!!) as we arrived and discovered the ugly architecture, disastrous parking situation and tired looking bar and reception area. However, with one exception (wheelchair accessible room) all our rooms were OK, and everywhere was really clean. The main thing was that all the staff really could not have been more friendly, helpful and efficient. We were tucked on to pavement and grass parking areas, and had a nice dinner (even though we were late and a big group) with cheerful waiters/barman.. Breakfast was swittly and efficiently served. and the lunch provided for our large function was fantastic and again very efficiently served - I've seen much worse in places twice the price. Staff all worked very hard. BUT - take earplugs - there is s nightclub and a bus station nearby.....

“dowdy and run down but good value for the price.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

At £45 b&b per room for 2 this was good value for money. However, this hotel gives the impression of being run on a shoestring with a rather tired ambiance. The room was dowdy with some makeshift furniture and a portable radiator and there were no toiletries in the bathroom. The general look of the hotel was run down and the elevator was filthy and covered in oily fingermarks on the walls and doors, hardly creating a good first impression. The bar was unmanned on a Saturday evening and it took a while for someone to come and serve me and another customer. Generally speaking the staff were pleasant and helpful. You get what you pay for i suppose so if you are not too fussy this will do.
