“Smiles in Saint Julian's”

My other half and I had a wonderful week at the Cavalieri in Malta. We looked forward every morning to our breakfast - and got very excited if the pancake station was operating! The hotel is in a quiet area, but the perfect location for bars and restaurants as everything was in walking distance. All the rooms have a sea view which was also a bonus. Our only criticism was that the reception staff, although very friendly, didn't always know the answers to some of our basic questions. For example, what bus we would need to get to a certain tourist site. We spent one day travelling for 3 hours on 3 different buses after being given the wrong information. Having said that - we had a wonderful week and would definately stay there again if we returned to Malta.

“2nd visit”

We stayed for 7nights early Feb the weather was cold for that time of year in Malta so everyone said, however the air con/heating in the bedroom was efficient, also duvets were in the wardrobe so warm and cosy at night. Our room was at the front therefore facing the road and on the 2nd floor so early morning noise from delivery vans can disturb light sleepers.
Free tea/coffee topped up daily, free safe deposit box and good housekeeping. Breakfasts were adequate, although tea/coffee from machines. Choice of hot/cold dishes, chef cooked omlettes 2 days and pancakes 1 out of 7 mornings. Ignore the juices like weak squash terrible. Free internet in the lobby with two computers, All in all very good value for money the position of the hotel is really good especially in summer. Okay you have to walk down a street which is rather run down to gain access but this is Malta not the Bronx. If visiting in summer pay extra for a seaview room they are at the sunny side and the views lovely.

“disgusting”

Bathroom was absolutely filthy, all air vents completely covered with dirt. The bedding was at least a decade old and paper thin. Mattresses are hostel quality at best. Although breakfast was included with the room it had no flavor whatsoever. Stayed here only one night because I arrived at 10 PM and was exhausted. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Room Tip: stay at Hotel Valentina!

“Great Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Stayed at the Cavalieri hotel early January, I was apprensive after reading the reveiws, but need not have been as every thing was great.
The receptionists were polite and very effiecent, (they could smile a bit more)
The check in paper work was swift, was told the room would not be ready until 1430 that was no problem, nice views whilst having a drink. The room allocated to us on the 7th floor over looking the bay had problems, but on reporting them to reception and maintenance failing to fix all the problems we were allocated a room on the 4th floor which had an equally excellent view.
Breakfast was extensive and catered for all tastes, did not have any other meals at the hotel as we were visiting family. Room and the hotel was cleaned ever day even around the swimming pool!
In short an excellent holiday at a great hotel, hope to be going back in May.

“Over booking, however, dealt with swiftly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

My boyfriend and i arrived at the hotel (June 2011) in the morning and there were around 10 members of reception staff behind the desk. Don't think i seen anybody smile or look friendly, a bit intimidating as there were 10 of them standing not doing anything. We handed over our accommodation voucher and we could tell right away that there was something wrong. I previously read all these reviews and i had a feeling that we would be told they were over booked. Right enough, they looked confused and told us to take a seat as our room wasn't ready yet and wouldn't be until 3pm. We sat near the reception desk and a male manager approched us and appoligised that the hotel was over booked and that they would be sending us to Intercontinental Hotel, a five star, which is an upgrade. As i knew in my gut that this was going to happen i actually wasn't too bothered because i previously looked up the Interconintental and thought it looked fantastic. The manager couldn't have been more helpful and brought us refeshments whilst we waited on a taxi to take us to the Intercontinental. He said he would take care of the taxi, pay for it and also contacted our transfer and rearranged it for us. The whole situation lasted under one hour and didn't need to wait long on the taxi. Although the situation is appauling what happened as we did not book this hotel, they couldn't have helped us more.

I'm giving the hotel a rating of 3 because we didn't stay there. The hotel reception was spotless and airy with comfy seating and free wifi, which was good so i could look at the hotel we were going to. We stepped outside onto the balcony which faced the sea which was lovely, just ashame we weren't going to use it.

If you were going to book this hotel, i would call the hotel direct to ask them if they have your booking confirmed. I would even call a couple of times on the run up to your holiday as you won't want to be dissapointed.
