We have just retuned from a week in the Dean Hamlet Apts. and felt it essential to warn others about this place. I was aware that it was 2 star so i was a little anxious anyway. The apt, (while very big with 3 balconies), was frankly the most unattractive place I have ever stayed in. Those 'lucky' enough to get a hotel room had no balcony and no space.
The Dean Hamlet hotel is situated directly across from The President Hotel. What you will not be told by your travel agent is that both of these 'hotels' are used as classrooms and accomodation for italian/spanish teenagers learning english (average age is 15). Our room looked straight on to the balconies of the President Hotel so we were treated to round the clock shouting, screaming, smoking, singing and i'll leave the rest to your imagination! I requested that our room be changed to the rear of the hotel and the very nice manager admitted that the noise was appaling and that it was a major problem for the hotel every year during july and august. He offered to change us to a rear room the next day. To be quite honest, on viewing the alternative room offered to us, we decided to stay where we were. Let's just say it was the lesser of two evils. The late night noise quitened down as the week went on.
The hotel offers 2 pools but there is a charge for sun loungers even to residents. The food in the restaurant is just average. Our sheets and towels were changed just once during the week. We even had to sign a contract to say that we would carry all our rubbish for the week through the hotel to an outdoor skip as the cleaners refused to do it. That's their job surely!?!
Saint Julien's resort is great if you are between the ages of 18 and 23 but for those looking for a little more DON'T GO THERE!
