The first thing I loved about this hotel was the location...If you want to wake up every day and to see a beautiful view over the harbor, it will worth to pay extra for a room with a sea view! The breakfast was great, with a funny russian cook who made us all kinds of omelets. We had lunch at the hotel only once and I ordered a middle cooked beef stake. The waiter wasn't paying attention and gave me a raw one, so I send it back to cook it a little bit more. He came back with another one and tell me it was on the house, as an excuse, which was a nice gesture. Needless to say that the room was very clean, with fresh towels and bed changing every day. The out door pool is kind of small and exposed, being near the main entrance and the street, so you have no privacy. The receptionists seemed to me very young, like students on training (a little bit unexperienced).
It's a place I would go back at any time. Not very luxurious but clean and decent.

Located in Cap d'Ail, France, this hotel is on a street that forms part of the border with Monaco, but since it's not actually in Monaco, the rates are much more doable. Most of its rooms face the marina and the Med beyond. The rooms are nice and the beds wonderful. The staff is well-trained and exudes Marriott friendliness. We've stayed there at least six times now when visitng our son who works in Monte Carlo. The bar has been recently renovated and it would be so wonderful in the summer -- we were there over Christmas and they didn't have the outside part fully set up, but will serve you there all year round.

The decor and carpets in the hallways are a bit tired, but those little issues are more than made up for by the staff and the comfort of the rooms. The food in the restaurant is very good and very reasonably priced. You can walk to the Monte Carlo Casino in about 20-25 minutes (it's mostly up hill). They provide a shuttle and will drop you off practically anywhere in Monaco. Be sure to book it in advance, especially in the summer.

The Marriott Riviera La Porte de Monaco was a perfect choice for us in Monaco. The service was more than friendly. The room was clean, updated and had a great view over the harbor.
Meals (lunch, breakfast, dinner & cocktails) were great. (quality of food was better than average for a Marriott)

It was an easy walk to the train station, grocery store and Monte Carlo. The free shuttle to the train station was an added bonus.

Filthy bath tub: this problem occurred 3 times in the last 2 years (of about 6 or 7 stays), although the rest of the room was clean. Twice we were offered an upgrade, as we usually arrive late, when no housekeeper is around. Beds are great, friendliness of personal at the reception has somewhat improved over the last years. Cars over 1,90m cannot enter the hotel garage and parking may be hard to find. Restaurant was a lot better 4 years ago. The food being rather poor the last 3 times, we haven't eaten there during our last stay.
