“An enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Returning to my home town is always enjoyable, but staying at the Roker again lived up to expectation. It is a good 3 star hotel. We stayed in the executive room overlooking the sea, and had breakfast included, which was very good. Some of th furnishings and the DIY maintenance leaves a bit to be desired, it wouldn't take much to make this a great hotel. A tip - there's extra secure parking at the rear of the hotel, parking around the front is very limited due to the restaurants in the hotel being popular. Excellent food in the bar, there is also an Italian and Chinese restaurants downstairs.

Room Tip: Pick the executive sea view room with the breakfast

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Not very inspiring entry from rear 'secure parking' (discovered afterwards that there is lots of parking on the very visible front of the hotel), but helpful reception. Wound our way up and down to reach our first floor room. Room nicely furbished, all functional, extra milk provided when requested, free wi fi worked well. Ate in the Italian restaurant - took 15 minutes to get to place our order, but food was excellent when it came (seemed a popular place with locals too). Promenade quiet, pier open in the evening, nearby park open next morning. Breakfast OK (but had to ask everything - no explanations or menu provided). We had a voucher so paid reduced rate so had good value - maybe not so good if you are paying full rate . . .

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for your review and comments. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry it took a little longer than expected to order whilst dining in our Tavistock Retro Italia Restaurant. I have looked at the breakfast service and we now have new menus for all guests so there is no confusion. Customer feedback is essential and I thank you that your comments have improved our product for future guests. Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

“Shabby.”

Have stayed here twice in the last 3 months and the experience very much depends on the room assigned. Our first stay was better - room was on one of the upper floors. Second time, we were assigned to the basement - not so good. Other members of our party had cold rooms and no hot water. Breakfast was okay. Staff at the bars were surly. Could be so much better. Not a lot of choice in Sunderland for hotels. Should be interesting for the Roker when the Travelodge opens in the city centre. Needs renovating desperately,

Room Tip: Not in the basement

“Not a Bad Hotel if the Shower Worked!!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Just spent an overnight stay at the hotel, rooms were generally ok however please check the shower controls as both my room and another guest's room shower did not work.
Food in the bar area was in short supply and talking to other guests who had to wait up to an hour for a basic bar meal on a Saturday afternoon.

“They couldn't run a bath!!!!!”

What a set up!
A group of us travel to Sunderland from various parts of the country for every home game.
The Roker hotel provide a free bus to take you to the ground at 2.20pm, so we decided to go earlier and have lunch. Upon arrival we were told that they would take our table number and would ALLOW us to order food in 10 minutes. 30 minutes later we still hadn't ordered...it wasn't even busy! When we had eventualy ordered our food it took 30 minutes to arrive leaving us 10 minutes to eat it before we had to catch the bus to the stadium at 2.20pm. 2.40pm came and...no bus! By this point we had called a taxi to take us up to the ground, making us late for kick off!!

Never again! What sounded like a good idea was a nightmare...they couldn't run a bath!!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your review. Customer feedback is essential in helping us to improve our product. I apologise that there were issues with your food service. This was an isolate incident and can assure you that we have addressed your concerns for the better of all guests. Our free bus service is provided by a third party and again as a result of an isolated incident due to an accident the bus was delayed on this occasion to the Stadium of Light and I apologise for this. As a result of this our bus now leaves 45 minutes before the match to allow a little extra time for such incidents. Once again my sincerest of aplogies and I look forward to seeing you again soon.
