We needed to stay over-night near Torp Airport as our Ryanair flight from Edinburgh didn't land till 9pm. I chose the Kong Carl partly because it sounded older and more interesting and partly because it had a family room. It was the first hotel we stayed in during our visit to Norway and it also turned out to be the best. The room was clean, nicely furnished and spacious. The bathroom had small complimentary toiletries, the only hotel to provide these although it was the best value for money. The breakfast was excellent, again the best we had in Norway. The staff were very friendly and helpful and one of the ladies at reception even helped us find a shop that sold chargers for iphones as our son had forgotten his.

Following the good reviews from tripadvsor I chose this hotel due to an early flight from Torp. I paid 126 euros for a standard room in the dependance wing. It was extremely noisy, both for traffic noise from outside road, both from inside for plumbing and flushing noise from neighbouring rooms and from ceiling.
The toilet was comparable to a one star hotel. The walls of the shower were plastered, not tiled as usual, therefore there were stains and scratches all around. There was a piping passing through the room, completely naked, which was horrible. Breakfast was sufficient.
This hotel definately not worth the price paid.

The hotel is very old. .You can hear all noise from the neighbour rooms. Bath room in standard room is substandard
While we were there a group young men/footballteam stayed there. They kept us from sleeping until 2.a.m.
The owner of the hotel must decide to run a quality hotel or a youth hostel.

We were on a late Ryanair flight to Torp and thought it would be a good idea to stop at Sandefjord when we arrived so we could still enjoy the night (Oslo is 1.45hr train journey, Sandefjord is 6mins). The rooms are cosy and the hotel is pituresque, we found the staff friendly and helpful (we got a restaurant recommendation from the receptionist for the 'Lady & the Tramp', which is 2mins away and serves great food).
Sandefjord is a beautiful little fishing town with ample restaurants, bars and a lovely harbour. Great for a stop over and an explore the following day.
