3 friends and I visited Geilo in mid February. Our apartment was excellent...on arrival we were greeted by a cosy lobby with fur-covered sofas and a small bar. Our room was very clean had a welcoming atmosphere (even though they clearly love Ikea). Basically we had no complaints about the room and considering we didn’t pay much at all were quite chuffed :) no complaints about the staff either, they were all very pleasant and although they shouldn't be obliged to, all spoke excellent English.
The storage room for boots and boards etc is also secure and only accessible using a room key, which helps you; sleep a bit easier if you plan to take your own kit.
There is a sauna downstairs in the swimming pool which is another little perk and we all trundled in there at the end of each day to rest our bones (even though we’re only 20).
Be warned however Geilo is quite expensive, for meal for two in the slope café was about £20 (240 nok) for two people. Alcohol is also very pricey and has a lot of restrictions so if you need to know it’s worth asking your rep, as it can be quite confusing. If you like drinking there’s a cool little bar called Lille blu in the town centre, which does karaoke some nights and is actually a good laugh. If you plan on getting tipsy though have a few drinks in the apartment before hand because it is not cheap for a pint. The food in the supermarket is also expensive. so much so that it makes marks and Spencer’s prices look like Lidl.
The one complaint we had for the whole week was about a restaurant called peppes pizza. Very expensive for food that is below par even for pizza hut. We were disturbed during our meal so we could pay the bill and we then found that they had added a service charge of 25%, which, we were told by 2 local sources, is very suspicious.
We had a great time and will definately be back next year.
