“Tradition and style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2011

Having had an awful start on our holiday in nearby Hemsedal, we decided to change for Dr. Holms. Thank God for this! We stayed over in 2006, but now it is even better. Pricey, but excellent service and super nice facilities. Anyone wanting to experience Norwegian style and classical mountain holiday should not miss Dr. Holms. Lots of other places up here are just not worth it, like we experienced in Hemsedal
Well run and not disappointing. We will definitely be back.

“The ski resort hotel I've been to!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2010

Geilo is a small village placed beautifully in the mountainous region between Oslo and Bergen. Dr. Holms is definitely the best hotel in the resort. Our company employees went there for integration and skiing trip and we stayed there for 3 days.

The hotel is located in a excellent spot, close to the ski slopes and mountain trails. You can rent the ski, buy a ski pass or buy instruction lessons at the reception.

The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, a sauna, and a spa. This makes is suitable not only for skiing trips but also for relaxation and pleasant stay.

The hotel restaurant offers excellent food services. It is not a buffet as all the meals are served by efficient, helpful and knowledgeable waiters. The hotel service is helpful, quiet and very professional, and every question is answered with a smile. The rooms were always clean and the room supplies were replaced on regular basis.

As far as business trips are concerned, Dr. Holms has a large number of smaller and larger conference halls suitable for a large number of people. During the coffee breaks, food and drinks are served.

The only problem were think walls of the rooms and loud and slow elevator. You were able to hear everything what was happening on the floor through think walls and if someone used the elevator during the night, you could easily be woken up.

I would recommend Dr. Holms hotel to anyone planning to go skiing in Norway, it is probably the best place you can visit.

“A different skiing holiday”

Hotel has been extended but has not lost it's charm, fabulous public rooms, excellent food especially at breakfast, uncrowded slops at the back door

“Great location, worn suite and average service for a high price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2010

We chose to stay at Dr. Holms for a family trip in December 2009.
We were met at the train station and driven the short distance to the hotel which was good because we had lots of luggage with us. The check in was efficient and friendly and we took the extremely slow elevator to our suite.
The suite was in the historic part of the hotel and was described as having an "English, romantic style". It turned out to be very dark, very worn and really not at all a place where we would like to spend more time than necessary. Old fashioned furniture, horrible curtains and almost no lamps. The wardrobe could not be used during most of the day because there was no lamp at all and it was very dark. There was at least two doors in the suite that did not lead to anywhere, just looked strange. Rebuilt but not properly. Bathroom very old fashioned. Beds very soft which is comfortable is you like this (like I do), but horrible if you do not (like my husband). There was a balcony outside the suite which was full of snow and old sigarettes that previous guests had been smoking outside.
The skiing was, however, very good. Recpetion took care of ski-passes and there is a good rental place for skiis connected to the hotel. After a short walk, we were in the slopes.
Apres ski at Dr. Holms is great, lots of fun and really the place to be. Very good service at bar. Be there early, however, if you would like so sit down. And be aware of the Norwegian prices for alcoholic drinks if you do not want to be shocked when you sign the bill. ;-)
Breakfast had a wide selection, but was still a huge disappointment. All "warm" dishes were completely cold. Cold bacon, cold sausages, cold baked beans etc. They run out of fried eggs all the time and you really had to be there when the new ones arrived to get one at all. Also the "new" eggs were cold. If there was a need to refill something at the buffet, the personnel would do this in between the guests helping themselves to the food. Pouring huge boxes of private label "cornflakes" into a big bowl at the buffet instead of bringing a new, full bowl for example. Still it was worse that some items were not refilled at all when empty. Someone was supposed to go around to pour coffee. They never found us. The juice machine gave only water, no juice. Some items, for example the home made youghurt with fruit compote, were really tasty, but the overall impression was just poor. Maybe it is high season and maybe we had breakfast at a very busy time, but this was just not acceptable.
Dinner was included, not possible to get just a room and breakfast at the time we were there. For the price it was a disappointment. Service at dinner time was, however, better than during breakfast.
SPA and pool area looked really nice. Not possible to get any SPA appointments - they were booked out a long time ago.
All in all we had a great time at Geilo, but this is thanks to Dr. Holms hotel.

“Dr. Holms - Geilo”

We stayed here for one night as part of a Globus tour in June 2009.

This hotel appeared to be in the middle of know where to us. But, I suppose this is a busy location during the ski season. The hotel is old and huge! The elevator was slow and would only hold 4 people – it informed you that it was overweight if more people tried to get on.

Our room and bathroom were of average size. We had two twin beds pushed together. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom. Our TV was not plugged in our connected to the cable, so after playing around with it for a few minutes, we got it hooked up, but there were not many channels, maybe ten at the most.

We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel compliments of our tour. Both were large buffets with lots of choices.

This hotel has a large pool, hot tub and sauna area. There was also a separate spa area for massages.

The lobby area is huge and there were many sitting areas throughout the hotel.
