My husband and I rode the train from Oslo to Bergen and we stopped along the way in Geilo to ski. We heard the alpine skiing was good in Geilo, and we decided to take a chance on it. We didn't have reservations ahead of time, but we could see the Dr. Holms Hotel from the train station, it was within walking distance, and we hoped it had space available. What a pleasant surprise: the hotel was charming, well appointed, and historic. It had a bowling alley, a cafe, and ski rental shop down below. The cafe, as others stated, closed fairly early, so if you're hungry, don't dawdle. We missed the cafe so ate in the dining room instead and it was so much better anyway. The staff was great and helped us with lift tickets, directed us to ski rentals, etc. The dining room was gorgeous and the dinners (although pricey-hey this is Norway, right?) were delicious. Breakfast too. The rooms were very comfortable. I would stay here again.
