“still an amazing Home from Home”

I know I have reviewed this hotel before, but I have been back during this winter and it is even better than before. the service, facilities and location are, as ever, amazing but since last winter the quality of the food has improved. I had the best steak I have eaten ever there, and the fish soup rivalled that offered by Lofeten in Oslo, which is praise indeed! I was also lucky enough to be staying there just before Christmas and sampled the Yule Bord, or Christmas buffet. It was delightful. If you are looking for a magical mountain retreat set in stunning, unspoilt surroundings yet which offers amazingly attentive service, and great facilities then Hotel Vestlia is for you.

“Fantastic hotel”

We stayed at Vestlia for New Year's, from Dec. 30 - Jan. 4, 2012. There were four couples and two children, so we stayed at an apartment with four suites. Our room was great, only issue was that the bathroom was not heated. The living room was very spacious, with a small open kitchen, a very large dining table (for ten people), and a fireplace. On New Year's eve, we had an in apartment dinner catered by the hotel. The food and the service were fabulous. They also have a very good spa, with (sadly only one) jacuzzi and a larger pool. The hotel is a sky-in, sky-out place. We loved it!

“Amazing home from home”

I stayed at this hotel for a week in December 2010, and fell in love with it. From the old world mountain lodge style, to the ultra cool spa everything was from a fairy tale. The service was amazing - both in the hotel and the spa. I was the only guest for the first 5 nights but felt like one of their family. I returned for 2 nights in January and a week in March when the hotel was full. Although staff were busy they still made me feel special, even helping me with my beginner's Norwegian! The only downside was a change of chef meant that on my third trip the food wasn't quite as good, although still as good as any 4 **** hotel in the uk. The views are great, the rooms are great and the spa is out of this world.

“Downhill!”

We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions during the last 10 years. Since being taken over by Thon Hotels we have noticed a difference. Unfortunately, not for the better. We were accompanied on this skiing trip by another couple who had always wanted to stay at the Hotel. Whilst our room was acceptable, the other one was inferior and overlooked the kitchen courtyard/bins. It turned out it was an old office, but not converted to the same standard. Both rooms suffered kitchen noise, particulary at night. The evening meal was repetative and unimaginative. On one occasion half way through the holiday our request to sit together, as we had done every night, was met with suprise. Whilst they said they would lay a table for us together we got tired of waiting and did it ourselves! Breakfast was reasonable but on one occasion staff had more food on their clothing than I had on my plate! Whilst the general atmosphere of the hotel was OK the fires were not lit regularly as they apparently did not work! Unfortunately, we had experienced some of these issues at another Thon hotel in Geilo on a previous occasion and now assume that they are their norm. Our complaint to them on returning home was poorly dealt with. In consequernce we will not be returning to this or any other Thon Hotels

A previous visit to another Thon Hotel in Geilo was similarly disappointing.

“Stopover between Bergen & Oslo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We took the beautiful & scenic train journey "Bergensbanen" from Bergen to Geilo. When we arrived at Geilo the hotel very kindly picked us up at the train station (for free!) and brought us to Vestlia. I loved the hotel at once. It has a warm, welcoming yet stylish and classy feel to it. Our room/apartment was very comfortable, clean and very well decorated. The children loved the old ski's on the wall and also walking through the hallways admiring the old furniture placed around the hotel which all blended perfectly in with the modern. Lastly the huge, massive indoor soft play area upstairs what completely unexpected and an absolute hit with the children. Very good idea having two separate pools as well. One for families and one for the spa. We will be back!
