I am a Norwegian and have grown up in the fjords on the west coast and have seen most of this part of Norway. Many places is for me "yet another village", however Solvorn and Eplet really impressed me! Located as a hidden place almost at the very end of the fjord Sognefjorden at the dead end of the road, it has a very quiet and relaxed atmosphere and stands out as a big contrast to the touristy and noisy tourist harbors (like Flåm or Geiranger). Solvorn is Norway in a nutshell.

Eplet is also something unique, and I don´t know of any similar places. First of all, the conditions are very basic and you should not expect a 3-4-5 star hotel with a bar, room service, and a restaurant. But that is not what Eplet is about and most likely the bad reviews of Eplet have been written by people expecting to stay at a hotel. By staying at Eplet, you feel like you are visiting Trond Henrik as a friend and move into his house as a guest. Trond Henrik´s warm and excellent hospitality makes you feel welcome. Second, the people visiting Eplet all treat you as a friend, causing your stay at Eplet to be much more than renting a bed for a good night sleep.

We have been there twice, last year as a couple and this year as a family with our 9 month old daughter. We have fed the rabbits and sheep, enjoyed the well tasting home made apple juice, gone cycling along the fjord in spectacular surroundings, and this year we harvested fresh salad from Eplet´s garden. The best salad we have ever tasted!

Eplet was perfect for my family of four (kids 6 and 8) and I would go back again with pleasure and let me tell you why....it is a small, comfortable, do-it-yourself hostel which puts you into close contact with other travellers. Cooking our own food along with the other travellers at the hostel and washing our own dishes is our preference and if it is not yours than this may not be the place for you. Thankfully, Trong Henrik has some good real food for sale in the office. We hiked with our kids and collected mushrooms and sorrel for our evening meals eating blueberries along the way. I highly recommend Eplet as a family place if your children are well-mannered and open to meeting new people and new adventures. This part of Norway is such an adventure and Eplet makes it all the better!!

Trond Henrik and his staff were very helpful in understanding the surrounding area and if you go be sure to support his orchard by purchasing the delicious apple juice!

Weeks before arriving in Eplet, i was already dreaming about it. Saw it on a website and fell in love with it immediately. When i finally arrived, it was everything i thought it would be and even more. The staff is very warm and Trond is extremely helpful. The place is so cozy, lovely, one can notice that it was made thinking about every detail.The surroundings are absolutely stunning, breath taking! But unfortunately, i had some unexpected changes in my trip and i had to leave it earlier, so i couldnt see much more of it.. Thats why i said in the title that i need to go back to eplet. And i will.

We only stayed for a night but we were very impressed by the kindness and friendliness of the staff. They all made us feel very welcome and home. Solvorn is a beautiful village, the view is breathtaking. You will get lots of advice on how to spice up your holiday or you might as well help picking apples and raspberries. Everything clean and well taken care of. We'd be back anytime :-)
