We Stayed at Rica Maritim Hotel the weekend after new year. Not a very popular time of the year to go out in Haugensund. The video of Norway they show is fabulous- be sure to ask to see it. They have a 3 screen theater or conference center that will show you a movie of the local area via a helicopter ride. Breakfast is available in the restaurant in the morning and there are few other places to visit on a sunday so you best eat there if you want breakfast. The cafe Rene downstairs is a great little cafe -with an amazing view of the little harbor area and for people watching. The hotel's room hallways are a bit strange-narrow-white in color with many white doors. I'll post a picture later. The rooms are nice- with a patio that has sliding window's on it. With the winter weather it was delightful to utilize the patio despite the weather and sit out there for a bit. We had a delightful view of the bridge and fishing ships below us from the patio. We didn't eat in the restaurant but we did spend the evening with the other locals in their nightclub/bar area. They had a pianist playing -and there were locals out for the night there dancing and singing along with the pianist. Truly a wonderful night of people watching for Hubby and I as we escaped away from family for the evening. I have never been to Haugesund in the summer-and it's a sleepy town in the winter but Rica Hotel is in a great location - where you can walk to everything in the downtown area. The owner of Rica owns his own Vineyard so don't be afraid to try the house wines and if they don't suit you- head up to the wine Monopoly in the mall and buy yourself an affordable bottle for your room if you are looking to save several pennies. We went to the movies earlier in the afternoon-which is also walkable from the hotel.
