“You have to like children”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

On a trip to Legoland we decided to stay in Vejle. We were not the only ones. The parking places were to few, we had to park in a public parking some hundred meters from the Hotel. But the Hotel was modern and clean and the girl in the reception was very polite. The constant noice from the children aside, the breakfast was fine. All in all, we will not hesitate to stay there again.

“an OK place to stay but a lack of attention to the small things lets it down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

The hotel is very centrally located and Denmark being Denmark, the price is not so bad even if its not great. Its modern and well presented on the outside as well as very easy to find.

On arrival we were a bit surprised that the car park is very small but a colleague noticed there was a parking house nearby too (we were not sure if that was also the hotel's). Parking in the smaller car park was free for guests but you need to get a pass at the reception.

A speedy check-in and friendly service on the reception and I was soon on the way to my room. I also picked up an internet password before going up, the wireless internet is included in the price. The reception staff in general were very helpful during the stay.

My room had a nice view (see pictures) and the initial impressions were good. There was air conditioning and the window could also be opened, which is not always the case in some newer hotels. Furniture was in a good condition and the room felt clean, modern and fresh.

Later however, after coming back from a meal in the restaurant I noticed a less than clean smell from the bathroom, the shower drain was the cause. Running the shower for a minute or two solved the problem but I really would have expected that the drain would be cleaned a bit more regularly to avoid that. As it had got a bit darker I thought I would put some more lights on but of the 4 lamps (a desk lamp, a standing lamp and two table lamps) only one actually worked. As the room was getting a bit warm I also wanted to turn the air conditioning down but the dial to control the temperature (see picture) was missing. I managed to get the temperature down with the top of one of my pens but a proper controller would have made the job much simpler.

I ate in the hotel's restaurant and although the food was good the place itself with its very white walls and bright lights really lacked the atmosphere you would expect a restaurant to have. The solid wall right in front of the door as you come in to the restaurant really added to the feeling that the restaurant was added to the hotel later as if they forgot to include it in the original plans. The menu was very limited but the chef did cater for special diets by cooking items that were not on the menu which for Denmark is a big plus.

I slept well without any disturbances and the next morning breakfast was a good and standard, completely self service buffet with a wide range of hot and cold items as you would expect.

If you are planning to see anything of Vejle in the evening make sure you go out early. I was there on a weekday night and after 20:00 everything was closed. For shops, the railway station which is a short walk from the hotel had a 7 Eleven which was still open and there were one or two fast food places open as well as an Italian restaurant very close to the hotel. Otherwise though cafés etc were all closed.

Room Tip: Family rooms are a decent size, don't be put off if this is all the hotel has as the extra beds...

“Easy and fun with kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

The location not too far from Legoland makes this a very popular family hotel in the summer. Parking space next to the hotel quite small, but there is extra parking in a trickier place. Pay attention where you park, we overheard somebody getting a ticket with the Hotel's parking pass.

As already said in other reviews, majority of the hotel guests were families with children in the Lego age. The breakfast buffet got very busy in the morning after 8:30, and one morning milk run out for some time.
I didn't feel the dinner buffet was worth the money (advertised as 'Jamie Oliver's').

Family rooms have bunk beds opening from the wall - very handy as the room is not very big. Small fridge, tv, pretty much warderobe space but no place for a large suitcase. Good beds to rest after exhausting Legoland adventures. Kids were excited, they loved the room, the kids' corner in next to reception as well as panncakes for breakfast.

We stayed for three nights, and happened to be there for Toto's open air concert they held in the park next to the hotel. Another fun memory to take home!

Room Tip: Most rooms very peaceful as they face the park. Family rooms have handy fold-away bunk beds.

“A good basic hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

We stayed for one night on our way to Legoland. It is newly renovated and the hotel and the room was very nice and fresh-looking. Free internet access (wireless). Breakfast included. Situated in the city. A lot of families with children this time of the year (very close to Legoland). If i visited Vejle for business I would stay here as well. Excellent service at check-in etc.

Room Tip: Room on a high floor

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011 via mobile

This Scandic is similar to Scandic everywhere in design and standard. It is situated very close to the pedestrian zone downtown and is a great starting point for discovering Legoland Billund, which is only 25 minutes by car.

The short distance to Legoland makes this hotel a prime location for families. There seems to be plenty of extra beds; we had one in our room but it wasn't really in the way.

The breakfast buffet is great, though there can be some noise since many guests seem to be around 4-8 years old.
