We checked into the Comfort Inn because it was late, we were very tired and we couldn't find a hotel anywhere else except one that looked quite dodgy! The first thing we noticed was the deserted dining room; only four young men lounging about drinking.
The corridors were dark, it was hard to find the light switches and they smelt musty. Our room smelt worse. I checked the bedding and towels (all spotlessly clean) and went to bed.
There was no 'do not disturb sign', so were woken promptly at 7.30 a.m. by a cleaner wandering in. We'd just about dozed off again when we were woken by the builders along the corridor starting work (turned out to be the only other customers in the dining room!)
The reason for the smell became apparent as soon as we used the shower; no curtain and the floor sloped towards the door. We were clearly not the first guests to discover the carpet outside was soaked. I wasn't over surprised to find the hairdryer didn't work.
The food wasn't bad and was quite cheap, the atmopsphere was not improved by being asked if we were planning to eat any more from the buffet as they wanted to put it away, even though it was still 20 minutes to closing time.
The group of English guests who turned up at two minutes to nine and were told they were too late for any food ended up at the handy pizza van outside (maybe it happens often).
The feedback form on the Comfort Inn website doesn't work either, so don't bother to complain.
The most expensive stay of our week in France, and by far and away the worst. Check out small family hotels registered with Logis de France for good value accommodation and post your results here!
