we stayed at hotel campanile for 4 nights in June 2009. The whole holiday cost £440 including flights so it was a hell of a lot less then staying in central paris or disneyland!
Very little to bussy st george, one supermarket and a few pubs and restaurants. Sounds daft to say this but the menu's in the village are in french so you might need to take a phrase book with you, i have a basic understanding of french and blagged my way through most of it except the turkish restaurant where we had chicken, rice, yoghurt and toast....all on the same plate, very bizarre ... or they could have been playing a game on the brits and see what cocncoction we'd eat lol!
The restaurant behind the train station - on the corner (i forget its name) was by far the best yum yum)
the chinese restaurant in the middle of the other two was nice, you might aswell eat from the buffer then off the menu - you get more for your money and all the locals seemed to love it so if its good enough for them!
The train station is a 5 minute walk away from the hotel and its only about 10 euros a day to paris/disneyland for a return ticket each.
Bog standard budget hotel, double bed, kettle, coffee, tv, decent shower - not much more you really need!
Reception were helpful with flyers and times for trains and telling us which stations to stop at but when we got at the train station we realised they run every few minutes and you're never waiting for long.
I'm a typical townie who gets a bit intimidated when going to a city, I always think someone is going to mug me or stab me (thanks for drilling that into me nan lol) so i was very conscious about my handbag and belongings on the train and the streets but there was very little to be worried of, everyone kept themselves to themselves and other then a few children coming around begging for money no-one ever got hassled (i copied the french and pretended i ddnt see them and they let you be - if you give them money a dozen other children appear with a plastic cup)
There's not much I can really say about the hotel because we werent there for very long, obviously you're Paris you're out and about sight seeing, if you want a luxury hotel then stay in the city centre, if you wanna go on the cheap then this is ideal especially if you have kids as paris is very very expensive!!
We ate once in the centre of paris and it cost over 100 euros just for a main course, a coke and a beer where as we were paying 30 euros in bussy st georges - again it depends on what sort of experience you're after. My partner proposed to me at the eiffel tower so i became a skin flint and saved more money for my engagement ring haha :)
Ooh one other thing i learnt at disneyland - when you buy your tickets there's an option to but a ticket for the other park for the following day, it saves around 40 euros so might be worth spreading your day out over two days and seeing everything rather then trying to cram it all in a day
