“Wonderful view over water, excellent food and wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

Don't expect 5* luxury here, but the accommodation is quite adequate and well described by PUTNEYBIKER. My wife and I have stayed here on many occasions over the years, sometimes for several nights rather than merely as an overnight stay and we have never been disappointed. You must have a room overlooking the slow flowing river, and if the weather is kind you will find yourself eating on a terrace overlooking the water. Le patron mange ici and the food and wine are well worth a detour.

Room Tip: Insist on a room overlooking the water

“On the river”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

You must get a room on the second floor with a river view otherwise you will miss out on lovely view. What you will also need to do is to leave all but essential luggage in vehicle as there is no lift. The rooms are 1985 with flotex carpets tiny shower room and really a tiny bedroom as well. All quite clean. Restaurant is all about Michelin flannel rather than noticeably good food. Be better off without a sommelier and invest in some decent staff in the kitchen. Summer menu was still on offer in mid October. Overly fancy dishes with scarcely a vegetable in sight. I expect the restaurant would be a great place in the summer as it has a terrace on the river. The restaurant decor needs a severe declutter, full of junk and ridiculous liqueurs trolley (x2). Capable enough staff but they hover as they have little to do so the meal was raced through by those keen to get home to bed. Breakfast was slightly better than avearage with a token amount of fruit, 4 strawberries. I luckily had a banana left over so added this to the fare.

Room Tip: 2nd floor river view

“Well worth a deviation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

I cant think of a better night stop the food was really outstanding and the bottle of Alex Corton Burgundy was well kept and well served the breakfast hit all the right spots the dinner was superb with the Pigeon being particularly good. The rooms are serviceable rather than great but comfortable nevertheless and most have great views over the river (ask for a room with a river view) True some redecoration of the rooms would improve them but they are more than adequate for a night stop, above all the service was outstanding and took one back many years in terms of its sincerity. Altogether a very good experience. The free wifi was a boon to an Ipad user

“Great restaurant, but average rooms!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

This was a second visit to the hotel and yet again the food was excellent! The owner and staff were very friendly and welcoming. When we went to our room the first thing we noticed was the wonderful view over the river. The rooms although small and a bit bland, were fine and fitted all the necessary requirments. If the weather is nice, eating supper on the terrace is wonderful. Overall it was very pleasant and i would recommend it for an overnight stay travelling through France!

p.s there is no lift and we found the breakfast very expensive!

“Setting for a seventies arthouse movie...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

The hotel is a timewarp, but in quite a good way. You can imagine it being the setting for an early seventies French arthouse film examining the mores of the bourgeoisie, with Catherine Deneuve lounging about looking bored... particularly on a Saturday night, when the restaurant seems to be the favoured rendezvous for the great and good of the locality, all dressed and coiffed to the nines. We didn't eat in, as when we arrived we were too tired to be up for the full, very elaborate-looking dining experience; but we enjoyed the breakfast, the excellent service, and the truly fabulous view from our room, looking directly out over the Loiret river. The accommodation was adequate and the whole hotel is immaculately clean and well kept, and you'll enjoy it if you have a taste for modern retro.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river
