“The best choice!”

My husband and I have chosen Christmas and Cocos Island as our honeymoon destination.
Our plan was to fly to Cocos Island first, stay there one week, and then to fly to Christmas Island for another one week. Unfortunately, our trip was changed due to Indonesian volcano ash. Our flights were cancelled, and instead of one week at Cocos Island, we stayed one week in Perth!
Nevertheless, we have managed to get at least to Christmas Island. We arrived to the Island one day before our original arrival date. Angela, the owner of The Sunset Hotel and Pat (Christmas Island travel) have managed to put us in a nice lodge. All situation was a bit stressful, because there were lot of people at the Island, who were not able (due to volcano) leave the Island. Too many people, to few rooms to stay at...
Anyway, Angela and Pat has managed not even to put us in a room one day earlier, also to get us a car one day earlier!
We stayed in Ocean View room at The Sunset, and there is nothing better than to enjoy your morning coffee overlooking the Indian Ocean...only to enjoy your evening glass of wine watching spectacular (the best on the Island) sunset!!!
Christmas Island is amazing island with all sorts or nature beauty. Great snorcheling, diving, trekking, bird watching, crab migration, rain forest, warm sea, whale sharks, and so on, and so on. No wonder they call it Galapagos of Indian Ocean!
We would love to come back again and then we will stay in Superior Ocean View room, where you can enjoy sunset from your private balcony!
Thank you very much once again, Angela!

“Sunset is the Lodge on Christmas Island”

Travelled with a group of friends (approx. 8 pax) and also took along our 4 month old infant for our maiden trip to Christmas Island and stayed at the Sunset for a week.

If you are looking for a good relax in nice, clean surroundings, the Sunset is it. The owner, Angela, was extremely helpful and very accomodating.

The lodge itself had simple amenities but certanly sufficient for the group of us City folks. Though we hardly used the pool, it certainly looked inviting and well kept. With air condition to beat the heat on Christmas Island, and lots of space for friends to sit together to enjoy the sea breeze, the Sunset was surely well worth the money and time spent on Christmas Island.

There are very few tourists on Christmas Island at the moment, with flight schedules up in the air, and the few hotels often full of government workers. But if you do go, you will be amply rewarded by a wonderful island.

We stayed at the Sunset which had great views (take a top floor Ocean View Room), and was clean, comfortable and run a very friendly and informative couple. It's more akin to a motel, and no food is available, so you need a car (4x4 is best!) to get around, but you do get a fridge, microwave and toaster, and there is a pub a short stroll away (better food available a short drive away). Free internet access as well.

It's certainly not full service, but Sunset does exactly what it needs to do, and I didn't see anything better. Nice little pool to relax in (as you can't access the sea from our front as it's too rocky). Highly and happily recommended.
