“Survivor: Thailand”

Me and my wife to be stayed at Ranyatavi for 3 days total on our first tip to Thailand recently, we were charmed by the rewievs and adverts found browsing the net before we booked our 2 week vacation. Once on location we soon discovered that this was maybe not what we had expected. The hotel is situated on a isolated road far from any village or town. Theres not much to do around this parts at all. The hotel do offer a taxiservice if you wish to go somewhere, but it is extremely overpriced. On the road on who the hotel is situated you will be abel to find a minimart and one local restaurant. Thats it. The hotel offers a gym, this is infact a small smelly room with a low standard treadmill, a orbitrek, and a TV-shop stairmaster. I did find a 10 pound dumbell aswell. No tours are offered, theres no activities at the hotel itself, this is a place for those who wish to do absolutely nothing else then staying at the beach/pool and are contempt with that.

The food was awfull, tasted nothing and was badly cooked. There was not much on offer on the meny, so if you plan to stay for longer then 2-3 days, be prepared to having to eat basicaly the same dishes every day. The food is also very overpriced at around 200-250 baht/dish. You should not pay more then about 100-140 baht for food in Thailand. Service is actually quite good, the staff really try to make you feel welcome. However theres a language barrier that we found out to be remarkable even for Thailand. Signlanguage is the way to communicate with most of the staff.

The rooms where allright, if you enjoy cockroaches and the smell of sewers. Also, the AC was extremely loud and didnt really give you the chance to catch some sleep while running it.

I could recommend a stay for 1-3 night at Ranyatavi if you are looking for a absolutely stunning beach and beautiful wievs when your looking for some relaxation, but i wont recommend you to stay for any longer period of time if you want to experience Thailand. You need to be assured that you are realy looking for isolation and solitude when going here as there is nothing outside the hotels walls for you to take part of.

“Laze around under the sun..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Nice place, with trees and beach. Rooms are good - wooden rooms and very cosy rooms. Had breakfast at their restaurant, its good. The beach is fine, the waves are nice. However, it's not as nice as most beaches in Thailand, but you'll get a clean and quiet beach all to yourself. It's very far from Patong, and the entertainment attractions like Fantasea and Simon Cabaret so if you have plans to go for it, prepare to pay for the taxi fees, which could cost $2,000 - $2,500 Baht. There is a mini mart down the road and also a market just in front of the hotel.

“Beautiful location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We wanted a lazy, private trip by the beach and that was what we got. The beach was stunning and there were barely any one around which we appreciated.

We didn't bother to eat at the resort's restaurant but instead drove out to try different local food which were A+ and somewhat cheap.

The hotel's management was friendly enough, although mostly just left us alone which was what we wanted. On the first night, one hotel staff actually walked us to a nearby bar (5 minute walk) as we were looking for places to eat. It was 11pm and we really appreciated him walking us there although we ended up not eating there (he also walked with us back to the hotel).

The room was lovely and spacious, we got a corner room which was next to the restaurant and kitchen but it didn't bother us. We had no problems with the bathroom or the room itself, but we did have to drive out to the nearest 7-11 to get coffee and tea supplies (there was a kettle, but no coffee or tea provided).

Overall, we had an amazing time at this resort and it really felt was if we were the only ones on the beach. Bliss!

“Nice location, bad management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

The resort is at the end of a little road, there is absolutely nothing around. You need a car to get to the village or some restaurants otherwise you stuck here. On arrival almost no one cared about us, the receptionist was staying on the phone, we had to wait until she finished. No welcome greeting, to towel, no drink.

When we arrived at the rooms, the key was not working and the rooms were not prepared. The rooms had a bad smell and were very hot. The safety box was not open and dust on the floor. TV offers only a few Thai channels in bad quality. When I ask to talk to the manager, they said, no one is here.

There were almost no guests in the resort. Breakfast was served on the table, no buffet.

The beachfront is really nice, deckchairs and in the first row, the pool is very well maintained. The pool bungalows are quite open for everyone to look into your bed.

“A lazy and laid back holiday!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

A quiet and isolated hotel about 30 mins drive north from the airport. This is situated way past Phuket main island. We had to pass sort of a "border police" check.

But it's a gorgeous hotel with an amazing stretch of beach! However, the service needs to be tremendously improved. Food and beverage is less than moderate and very expensive. This lead to us having to rent a motorbike and we drove to a nearby seafood restaurant for lunch and dinner.

Not advisable for couples with kids or elderly, as we spoke to some of the other elderly guests and they had quite a few grouses! Luckily me and hubby were looking for a quiet getaway so it was not too bad in terms of location.

All that said, the hotel could be a lovely place to stay if only the food and beverage was better(about 300% better!!) This is what the management needs to act upon...and act fast!
