“Like a medieval tale”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Beautiful, beautiful room. For some reason we got a better deal at the hotel's website than other booking sites, 89 Euro a night, no breakfast included. The city is a jewel and the hotel itself is very charming. My young daughter was enchanted we were at a castle.
The restaurant is on the expensive side and requires a reservation, but very beautiful and very good food.
Breakfast was not included, but available and with good options and the irresisitible French charm.

Room Tip: The room was 106 and it was so beautiful and confortable with a beautiful view!

“Very nice building in a lovely place but not up to what should be”

We had a one day stay with one of our grown up sons. The building is very nice, a real chateau and the place is also very nice with wonderful views. Arrived by car, plenty of space to park.
The staff was very helpful and nice as they were in all our e-mails contacts.
The room for the three of us were really good, divided in two areas as the bathroom which was divided in two different "rooms".
The sensation is that the Chateau could be more. The bathroom was not working as should be, and the staff said is a current problem as the building is old.
Nevertheless is a good place to go, with reservations, as the price is high.
It has also a very nice pool with wonderful views and a restaurant that we did not try but looks also very nice with high prices.

“Classic French style in a wonderful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

The hotel is a s,all chateux in the outskirts of Chambery and is ideal for the French Alpine region. We just stayed for one night en route but would have liked to stay for more. We got a very good discounted room rate through the internet which I would recommend because the advertised rack rates are rather steep. We got put in a funny little annex room off the main building but it was very nice and spacious with a big bathroom. There was no holder for the shower head though which made having a shower raher awkward and didn't seem to make sense in an otherwise beautifully appoined bathroom. The bedroom was nicely decorated with lots of wood panneling and a comfortable four poster bed. There were picture windows, although the view was somewhat obscured by trees. There was a minibar but no tea or coffee making facilities. Very disappointingly for a hotel of this standard there was no internet in the room and the wi fi was only available in the public areas - this is simply not good enough these days for a hotel of this standard.

We ate in the orangery restaurant which was terrific, fantastic food, great staff albeit a little pricey and a bit inflexible - I asked to change the desert on the fixed price menu for one I actually liked but this was apparently too much trouble ! This isn't on especially when you are paying so much for the experience, which I will say was otherwise very special.

Breakfast was lovely and served in a nice room, very lovingly decorated, like all the public areas.

Overall a great hotel but just let down by some silly lapses and one howler - the lack of in room internet.

Room Tip: Book an internet discounted rate

“A gorgeous chateau with ambience.”

The Ambience of Chateau de Candie is what we loved the minute we entered reception. It is a beautiful Chateau in a beautiful rural setting surrounded by lush green environment of grape vines, trees and lawns. A lovely pool area (cold and refreshing during summer) and a wonderful outdoor dining experience with gorgoeus food, excellent presentation and service. Great location to explore nearby regions in particular Lake Annecy is definetly a must see - France's little Venice. It was very helpful and appreciated by us that the staff spoke English and assisted our stay in every way possible.. The manager was very accesible and extremely helpful, engaging and introduced himself to us on the first day. Most definetly a wonderful experience, a highlight we wont forget when we return to Australia.

Room Tip: The room we booked via bookings.com 3 days out from arrival which I assume was not their more expens...

“Truly incredible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We found the Chateau de Candie on a road trip through the area and booked it at the last minute. We were upgraded to a luxury room and the staff could not have been friendlier. Huge, comfortable room, gorgeous chateau, and the most amazing breakfast. The night we spend at the Chateau de Candie was a highlight of our trip and we would absolutely recommend it.
