“Ok, but just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

it's a ok hotel but the quality/price ratio is not good. the main problem is that everything, carpet, furniture, etc is old and would need a good refresh. the carpet is the constant source of high level of dust in the air; they also seem to use a lot of chemicals like air sprays which only make the air quality inside the hotel and inside the room even worse.
our room was also under the roof, so a lot of head banging. The heating didn't seem to work and an extra appliance with remote control (airco?) didn't work either; the bathroom had a bathtub with no curtain or glass so that every time someone took a shower the floor would be flooded and under the sink there was a mysterious large machine making a lot of noise (a boiler?).
the breakfast is very expensive and barely decent, despite the quantity the quality of products is rather poor and far from the level expected in France. No effort is made to offer local or fresher products.
From our research it seemed that Chambery has nothing better to offer, it's a shame that such a nice city doesn't have a nice decent hotel recently renovated.

“Great hotel in the middle of Chambery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

We two stayed 2 nights in their family room, which was huge. Two queen beds and two single beds on the 3rd floor. Its right in the centre of Chambery and close to everything. The staff spoke English and were very helpful.
We didn't eat at the hotel as we found some lovely little cafes and plenty of restaurants close by.

“Decent town centre hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

Located just outside the older centre of Chambery this hotel is fine for a short stay to enjoy this town. The hotel is an older building in amongst commercial shops. They provide parking in the underground car park nearby, its very small spaces and ramps are very tight, smaller cars are fine here. Reception was friendly. The hotel has a lift. Our room was on the 4th (top) floor and had one small window overlooking the light sink or central courtyard. It was a bit dark but was very quiet and away from the town noise. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and we slept well. Breakfast was a very good spread with fresh coffee. No problems and I recommend this hotel.

“Charming hotel in a perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

We stayed in the Hotel des Princes during our visit to the Rhône-Alpes and Savoie regions. After visiting Annecy we decided to stop over in Chambery and found this charming hotel bang in the city centre.

We initially booked ourselves in for two days, but we liked the town and the hotel so much that we extended that to four days.

The rooms are reasonably priced and you can get a 20% discount through the Chambery tourist office, which is just a few minutes walk away.

The staff were all nice and friendly and made sure we had a pleasant stay, and it has been by far the most enjoyable hotel stay in France we've had so far.

We only went for breakfast once, simply because there are too many nice places to go out and too many things to try. The hotel breakfast was simple enough but with a nice selection of cheeses, cold meats etc. Nothing posh or extravagant, but a really nice breakfast all the same.

There is a small internet terminal in the hotel lobby and I believe they offer wireless internet access at a cost, but we didn't need it so I can't comment on it further.

The rooms were nice and clean with well kept charming old furniture, flat screen TV with international satellite TV programs, and a clean spacious bathroom. A nice mix of old and modern. The view was unfortunately of the back of the hotel, so there was nothing to see except the backs of houses, but on the plus side it was more quiet than a street-facing room would have been.

They offered us parking in the underground carpark around the corner (Hôtel de Ville) at a very reasonable rate of 8 euro per day, with card access which meant we could go in and out as we pleased. The car park can get busy during the day but empties out in the evening, probably down to the fact that you can park for free for 30 minutes so people must be using it for getting things done in the city centre.

They didn't make a hassle of returning the card either, but allowed us to keep it for the day when we checked out, and return it when we were leaving Chambery.

Absolutely loved the town and the hotel and would definitely come back to stay again!

“Great site - disappointing rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2009

Staff were friendly - its right in the middle of Chambery - couldn't be better but the rooms - I worroed about what seemed to be a lack of fire alarms and the smell in our bathroom of bad drains was atrocious. I nearly turned tail and left.
Breakfast was fine.
