“Ideal accomodations in a beautiful city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

The Hôtel des Princes, now an Interhotel, is a charming, clean and well-run inn in the delightful Savoyard city of Chambery. The decor is on the fanciful side, which is appropriate given the city's unlikely connections with 18th century India, and very comfortable, though I think we would have preferred a firmer bed. The staff is efficient and courteous, and the location -- In the heart of the old city, right down the street from the Duc de Savoie's chateau, and an easy walk from the train station, is unbeatable. The breakfast, at 8 euros per person, was excellent, featuring local artisanal breads, Savoyard cheeses, jams and outstanding coffee.

“typically good value european city hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Apart from the small lift (they are renovating) this was a really nice small hotel with some character and centrally located. Comfortable rooms and good breakfast. Asking about a good and cost effective restaurant we were recommended one and told 'most of the rest would be closed' only to find every one that we passed was open! Parking in the main street or they will recommend a local car park.

“good value hotel in fantastic location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

This hotel is ideally located in the centre of Chambery's beautiful old town. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and this made up for the slightly faded air (apparently it's being refurbished so that aspect should improve) - which was mainly due to the rather old fashioned decor. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean, but my single room was rather dark and a bit pokey (my friend's was fine, however); it did have air con, though, which was really welcome since it was very hot. I was surprised to discover that it's one of a chain of hotels - it didn't feel 'corporate' at all.

Overall, I think this hotel is very good value for the location.

“Charming little hotel with Alpine flavour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

I stayed at Hotel des Princes at the end of October into early November when I was checking out hotels for my clients. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Staff were most helpful and my room was very clean and comfortable. I had no problems at all and I also saw many of their rooms which are decorated in Alpine styles when I was shown round the hotel.
Rooms seem quite small but you have to remember that this is a converted convent and in France rooms in cities can be small and convent rooms will be small!
This is a little family run, simple and cosy hotel which is good value with good Continental breakfasts. They don't do evening meals but there are many good places nearby including the wonder "Real" restaurant almost opposite.
I would recommend this hotel for people on a budget but if they want more de luxe, then they would have to pay for that and look for the 4 and 5 star hotels.

“Ok, but just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

it's a ok hotel but the quality/price ratio is not good. the main problem is that everything, carpet, furniture, etc is old and would need a good refresh. the carpet is the constant source of high level of dust in the air; they also seem to use a lot of chemicals like air sprays which only make the air quality inside the hotel and inside the room even worse.
our room was also under the roof, so a lot of head banging. The heating didn't seem to work and an extra appliance with remote control (airco?) didn't work either; the bathroom had a bathtub with no curtain or glass so that every time someone took a shower the floor would be flooded and under the sink there was a mysterious large machine making a lot of noise (a boiler?).
the breakfast is very expensive and barely decent, despite the quantity the quality of products is rather poor and far from the level expected in France. No effort is made to offer local or fresher products.
From our research it seemed that Chambery has nothing better to offer, it's a shame that such a nice city doesn't have a nice decent hotel recently renovated.
