We stayed in the Hotel des Princes during our visit to the Rhône-Alpes and Savoie regions. After visiting Annecy we decided to stop over in Chambery and found this charming hotel bang in the city centre.
We initially booked ourselves in for two days, but we liked the town and the hotel so much that we extended that to four days.
The rooms are reasonably priced and you can get a 20% discount through the Chambery tourist office, which is just a few minutes walk away.
The staff were all nice and friendly and made sure we had a pleasant stay, and it has been by far the most enjoyable hotel stay in France we've had so far.
We only went for breakfast once, simply because there are too many nice places to go out and too many things to try. The hotel breakfast was simple enough but with a nice selection of cheeses, cold meats etc. Nothing posh or extravagant, but a really nice breakfast all the same.
There is a small internet terminal in the hotel lobby and I believe they offer wireless internet access at a cost, but we didn't need it so I can't comment on it further.
The rooms were nice and clean with well kept charming old furniture, flat screen TV with international satellite TV programs, and a clean spacious bathroom. A nice mix of old and modern. The view was unfortunately of the back of the hotel, so there was nothing to see except the backs of houses, but on the plus side it was more quiet than a street-facing room would have been.
They offered us parking in the underground carpark around the corner (Hôtel de Ville) at a very reasonable rate of 8 euro per day, with card access which meant we could go in and out as we pleased. The car park can get busy during the day but empties out in the evening, probably down to the fact that you can park for free for 30 minutes so people must be using it for getting things done in the city centre.
They didn't make a hassle of returning the card either, but allowed us to keep it for the day when we checked out, and return it when we were leaving Chambery.
Absolutely loved the town and the hotel and would definitely come back to stay again!
