Stayed at the Hotel Cristol for short ski break with Friends.
Hotel is situated on the main road out of Briancon towards the ski resort of Montgenevre which is only 15 mins drive, even though this is the main road out of town it never gets busy/noisey.
The hotel is basic but very clean, parts are slightly dated and the rooms are a bit of a gamble on the decor and size, but nothing to worry about and they all have a very new flat screen TV with CNN.
Sheets changed everyday and bathroom cleaned.
Restaurant food excellent and incredibley reasonably priced for the area, the hotel is family run and the staff are all very friendly and helpful, but if you do not speak french you may need your phrasebook!
Only downside to the hotel is that the 'bar' is really more of a counter where they lay out the breakfast things, and in the evening (especially it seems when they are very quiet we were the only guests staying there by the final night) they shut the bar at 10pm and the lights in reception/seated lounge area go off at 11pm, and there is little point in trying to bargain a drink!, although they do not mind if you drink your own whilst sitting in the lounge, whilst playing cards.... unusual for a hotel but true!
The hotel is a fair walk to the main town of Briancon down and very long steep hill, although there is not much there anyway! but it is situated right next to the old town which is a world unesco heritage site and is worth a walk round on evening.
Overall this is a good hotel to stay in for a ski break/holiday.
