“Good value but shocking breakfast service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Stayed for one night last week as I was attending a meeting in the LBG Management Centre, 5 mins away, picked this hotel for the location and there were leisure facilities too.

The room was functional with a firm but comfortable bed, the bathroom was a little tired and could do with refurbishment i.e. the towel rail and tiling had definately seen better days.

The leisure club was a good plus point, something over the Premier Inn just down the road, the friendly staff were helpful and despite the children having swimming lessons, the pool and facilities were off a good standard.

All of the above is very positive, however the staff on breakfast duty not only required some customer service training but needed a good shake. They were not welcoming, did not have any sense of urgency and clearly did not enjoy what they were doing. If the hotel can't get this right, perhaps they should just adopt a complete breakfast buffet. After the wait, the cooked breakfast was not particularly appealing.

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay, with regards to the bathrooms, we are currently under going a refurbishment programme. I am sorry to hear of your breakfast experience, we do normally serve a full english buffet, unfortunately on this day we didn't. We will be taking on board your comments and we hope to see you again.

“Nice friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Stay for one night in December, upgraded room. The room was very big and had everything you needed. Shower didn't work and reception moved us within 10 minutes. Fast friendly check in. Massive bed which was very comfortable.

Made use of the leisure facilities which were lovely (& quiet), however the changing rooms are a little council swimming pool standard not normal hotel quality.

Didn't eat at hotel as already had dinner plans nearby.

Hotel bar had a late night disco which was great way to finish off a lovely evening.

Would recommend to friends

“Corus Character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

I spent (another) 2 nights at The Corus in November 2011 – having stayed there many times over the last few years it has been interesting to see other people’s experiences (good and bad) reported in this forum! This stay, like most of my others, was perfectly OK – the usual friendly welcome from reception, a comfortable and quiet room, crisp linen, prompt room service and speedy check out. The refurbished rooms (with new TVs) are a welcome update. I cannot claim that all past stays have been without fault – there has been the odd occasion where things have been not quite right, e.g. from blown light bulbs to missing room telephones, but these were usually put right promptly with a smile thrown in for good measure. The location is very convenient for the M42, NEC and Birmingham Airport and comes with plenty of free car parking space. The attached Leisure Club, whilst small, is fine for a quick wind-down or work-out and, like the hotel itself, has a friendly personal / family feel to it compared to bigger characterless corporate chain establishments.

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the rear of the property are away from the main road and potential bar noise...

“Such comfortable beds!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We stayed on Friday evening in the run up to Christmas.
The hotel was very busy with Christmas parties but we were not disturbed by them. In fact our room was really quiet.
The room was very comfortable and well decorated. We liked the cheerful stripy carpet. We enjoyed watching the large wall mounted TV . The bathroom was a good size. No little bottles of shampoo and shower gel but there was a Carex liquid soap dispenser by the wash basin and an Imperial Leather shower gel dispenser by the bath/shower. We think this is sensible and environmentally friendly as it cuts out waste.
The beds were so comfortable that we found it hard to leave them the next morning!
Breakfast was good although we would have appreciated muesli in addition to the other cereals. Good choice of items for the cooked breakfast. A wider selection of breads would be good too. There were only thin sliced brown or white sliced bread. However these are minor items
We had a happy stay and would recommend this hotel.

“Great way to start a holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We have now used this hotel and car parking facility 4 times when flying from Birmingham airport. The staff are helpful and friendly and it is located approx 20 mins from the airport. Our room this time was a family room, newly refurbished and very spacious and clear, the fact that the remote to the TV was missing was quickly rectified and we went to use the leisure facilities within the hotel. This is one area that could do with a bit of a makeover, however everything was clean and warm and towels are provided - the swim pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room were all clean and about 6 other people were using this area when we arrived on Saturday at about 4.30pm. The transfer from hotel to airport and back again are full explained on a written bullet pointed sheet and on our return the taxi was at the appointed location within two minutes of us leaving the airport.
I really cannot fault this service, it runs like clockwork and due to advances in IT the taxi driver had full information about us our names number of cases and time of arrival on a display in the car - very reassuring. Once again top marks.

Room Tip: Some rooms face inwards and these we have always found to be more quiet than those facing the road h...
