“Butlins”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

All I can say it how disappointed we were with our stay. Having stayed in many RIU Hotels over the world this is most definately not up there with the rest. If you are looking for Butlins in the sun then this is the hotel for you. Extremely busy, full of familes who were unable to control their kids either by the pool or during the evening running up and down the corridors whilst people tried to sleep. I have 2 children myself and even they complained (maybe I did not realise what good kids I have!). Luckily for us we had 2 friends out in Tenerife with a car so they were able to rescue us!

As I say if you are after a peaceful, relaxing, comfortable stay with good food and drink then this is most definately NOT the place for you.

Room Tip: Only recommendation I can say is a room at the top to minimise the noise from other guests

“Lovely Hotel!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

January 2011 (late review) As a young couple we wanted somewhere to escape the winter to relax but within easy reach of shops and attractions. This hotel delivered that as it offered a free bus (coach) which took us into the centre of Playa Las Americas where all the shops, bars etc are.. lovely place! The hotel itself was very clean and staff very friendly; situated on a rocky seafront and a little out the way from much else. The food was great and offered a wide selection including fresh fish cooked for you, lots of puddings and themed nights down at the sea front restaurant. The pools are huge although the infinity pool was cold, but it was Jan/Feb when we went. Lots to do on site. The hotel rooms were clean with a satalite TV and balcony.Couldnt fault the holiday apart from the entertainment focusing on mainly the Germans, English came 2nd! I would recommend a trip to Siam Park... one of the best water parks ive ever been too and the free coach drops you off within walking distance from the attraction. Also, i highly recommend a trip to Loro Parque again the best Zoo ive ever been too... especially the whale show (Amazing!) We had a behind the scenes tour which we really enjoyed and recommend! The hotel staff sorted this for us and was really helpful with trivial questions and kept us up to date with flight times etc. Overall, brilliant hotel!!!

Room Tip: Book a table for the seafront themed restuarant - great food! Visit Siam Park and Loro Parque!

“fantastic winter holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Great holiday, laid in sun every day for two weeks, the only worry being what number sun lotion to put on .From landing at Tenerife airport to sitting in taxi took 25 minutes, then 25 minute transfer. Good start, arrived at reception at midnight, where very friendly and efficient reception manager checked us in, telling us there was a cold buffet laid out for us in restaurant. We went straight to room (C413) great suite with large bath, separate shower etc off bedroom and toilet and washbasin off the lounge area. Free safe (this was larger than most - easy get in ipad, video camera, etc) in wardrobe, large balcony, with access from lounge and bedroom, large fridge to keep the free unlimited bottles of water obtained from reception. Only 3 drawers, one large cupboard and very large wardrobe - we took lots of extra hangers as we knew the drawer space was limited. This was a very quiet room overlooking sea and pool and looking towards La Gomera.
Breakfast was buffet in main restaurant from 8.00 (they did open part of the restaurant at 7.30 for cold buffet - useful for last day or early start) with waiters serving coffee (and cava if required). Excellent breakfast, normal hot foods, bacon, freshly fried eggs, beans, tortilla, freshly cooked pancakes, usual cold meats and cheeses, whole and prepared fruits, yogurts, breads and pastries which were varied every day. Smoothies and juices to drink. We ate breakfast outside every day- lovely. Lunch and dinner we ate usually at the main restaurant. We did try themed restaurant for Italian and Canarian nights, we found you could just walk up without booking. Enjoyed the meals there - smaller and cosier and nice to have a change. Lunches and dinners had great choice of food, savoury and sweet, personal favourites:- huge prawns, salmon, paella, steaks, crepe suzettes. Chocolate fountain was popular with many.
Free pool towels which could be changed as often as you liked, also some washer/dryers in towel exchange area for guests use. (Useful for families). The infinity pool and area is quieter than bottom pool and very relaxing to lounge around. Easy to go to bar and help yourself to hot and cold drinks, beer and wine. The bar staff are more than happy to mix you any drink and will make it as strong as you want!
Felt all the staff were friendly and efficient - great customer service.
There were several very pleasant walks in the area and several people at the hotel went walking/climbing in the mountains behind. Limited shops and bars in Paraiso, although the hotel has 4 in the reception area including a small supermarket and hairdresser. Bus stop 150 metres from reception, buses to Los Cristianos passing Adeje and La Americas - 2 per hour. The hotel also runs a free service 3 times a day to and from La Americas, bookable previous day in reception.
We found this to be an excellent good quality all inclusive hotel and look forward to returning.

Room Tip: If you want sun on balcony in afternoon request C block.

“Mostly Excellent shame about the kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Almost all aspects of this hotel are great. Friendly staff, excellent room, food first class, local drinks that taste super. Bar service best ever, no waiting at all. Plenty of sunbeds, beach towels on demand, a heated pool. Even the entertainment was good. 10 minutes by car out of Playa de las Americas. Worth hiring a car as the island is very pretty and with the motorway mostly easy to get around.

The only problem, and this is a warning for couples, in the Winter this is not only a Rui Class hotel but also a Scandinavian Holiday Village. Over 300 young children, up to about six or seven, in the hotel some of them out of control. As the kids disco is in the main lounge bar they congregate from 7 to about 9 with no chance of any peace. If you like kids or have kids this hotel is superb. Unfortunately there is no venue to get away from them. I was told that the holiday village is winter only.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room, less chance of any disturbance from Children crying.

“Ideal for short break”

We went to the Riu Buena Vista in January 2012, at a time when the whole of Europe was in deep freeze. Weather was perfect for our stay - over 20 degrees and it felt hotter in the sun. We went all-inclusive, which is recommended as there aren't any decent restaurants within a comfortable walk. The staff at reception (particularly) and indeed everywhere else were friendly and went out their way to provide good service. There was a reasonable selection of food but it didn't vary and might have got a bit boring after two weeks. Life basically revolves round the two pools, although other activities such as air rifle shooting and football are available. It gets noisy at times due to the poolside entertainment (which is of reasonable quality) but these sessions don't last that long. My main gripe was the availability of hot water, the acquisition of which necessitated running taps and showers for several minutes before even a lukewarm temperature could be reached. Cautious travellers might worry about the luggage storage room next to reception, which is totally open to everyone.

Overall it was good, and best thing I can say is that we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'D' block which is separate from the main hotel. There are no lifts so peo...
