“Adequte but not as good as Premier Inns”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed for one night whilst on the way to Scotland. The rooms were tired and in need of an update as well as some repairs. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Requests for extra tea, millk and pillows were responded to in an equally friendly manner. The rooms are nowhere near the standard of Premier Inns which was reinforced by the price of £30 whilst the Premier Inns nearby were £89.

Room Tip: Book as early as possible and preferably at a Premier Inn

“Good Value Hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

I read the other posts and I thought I had made a big mistake booking this hotel. We booked sale rooms on the web and two nights cost £22.00. And that was exceptionally good value. What do you want from a hotel? A bed, a showed, a TV, a warm environment, cleanliness, nice staff. All here.

Don't get me wrong - it is not perfect. The hotel is tatty, and the local amenities are rubbish (it is a 12 mile round trip to the local Asda or McDonalds). But if you want to stay somewhere which is great value, I would really recommend.

“Should have tried a Premier Inn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

I booked two rooms for the Tuesday night and arraived about 22.00 hours. The entrance had a strange smell about it and both rooms were not really clean but I suppose just about ok. A typical travelodge that could do with updating and modenising. I should have gone to a Premier Inn instead. To get to the Inn if you are travelling from the south you have to go to junction 45 and then go back down the other side of the motorway. Not bad as I was having to go into Carlisle the next morning. But the place needs looking at and updating it is now showning its age. One really bad thing is the beds are terrible with three pillows for two people and only one small and one lage towel per room.

Room Tip: Stay at a Premier Inn

“KNOCK IT DOWN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Knowing I was going to have a long drive from Dorset to Aberdeen, I decided to book into this Travelodge to break my journey. I wish I hadn't.
The room was filthy and the dust thick on the TV and desk. The curtains appeared to have never been washed and I did not want to touch them.
The bathroom - the basin was very badly cracked, the toilet did not flush properly and it would appear that this problem was known, as the panel at the back of the toilet had been removed several times and the nails were still sticking out - up to half an inch!
The toilet roll only had a few sheets on it and the spare was loose and trailing on the floor and was such an inferior quality of tissue that I was glad I did not have the need to use it.
The bath was disgusting the shower curtain was brown and pink at the bottom, a sure sign of bacteria - it looked as if it had been screwed up in a bag and then re-hung. The hot water was just about luke warm. The bathroom floor had not been cleaned in a very long time. I would not walk in there without my shoes on.
Light fittings were filthy, the lamp above the TV was unbelievable
I pulled back the quilt to find the sheets had holes in.

If a had not been so tired and exhausted, I would have collected my bags and found somewhere else to lay my head.

There was a food counter that offered Costa coffee and cold snacks. The counters had stale food left in the containers.

The £7.99 cooked breakfast offered in the morning was not appealing and I left without a shower and a grumbling stomach and was anxious to get to the next stop for hot food and the use of the washing facilities.

Room Tip: Avoid this Travelodge. I wish I had taken photos - but too tired.

“Average quality TL, you know what you're getting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

Stayed here for one night while travelling the length of Britain, overall it's not a bad Travelodge at all, certainly not as bad as some reviews make out.
On the downside, (as mentioned frequently here) there's no food option of an evening save for a petrol station. Rooms on the M6 side are within hearing distance of the motorway, so take earplugs if you're easily disturbed. (I'm not, I wasn't affected).
On the upside the staff were excellent, professional and courteous. They gave me plenty of options of places to eat nearby in Carlisle (10 mins drive away, so the "no food" thing isn't really that bad at all, since you have to have a car to reach this lodge). The room was clean, a lot more modern and warm than other TL's on the M6, and everything worked as it should.
For £22, I couldn't have asked for much more, so I was pretty happy overall. If you plan ahead to dine elsewehere, and as long as you're paying a lowish rate, it's not a bad option at all.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the M6 are quietest.
