My family and I (6 of us) stayed here for 1 night before flying out from Gatwick South Terminal the following day.
When staying on a park and fly rate, you quite simply park in the designated area and make your way to reception. Check in was smooth as always and we were asked to fill out the necessary forms and also asked to hand our our car keys. If you are taking the shuttle the next morning, ensure that you book your tickets for this upon checking in, or you run the risk of not being able to board the bus at your chosen time. The cost is approx £4 per person but family tickets are also available. Bear in mind that the shuttle leaves approximately once hour, so make sure you leave plenty of time to check out in the morning, so you dont miss your bus!
The hotel does have a pool and a gym, but we were unable to gain access to either due to both closing fairly early in the day (even though they should have been open, after looking at the opening hours on the hotel website) - it appeared that the facilities were independant of the hotel, although I could be wrong about this. Perhaps best to ask at check in, if you are interested.
There is 1 bar - The Library Bar, that serves hot, soft and alcoholic drinks. Nice and pleasant to sit in and just opposite there is a door leading to the outside, overlooking the pond, for smokers. There is also a "pub" - which serves all manner of drinks and traditional "pub grub". A meal for two here - 2 courses each, with 2 glasses of wine and 2 pints of beer usually costs between £40 -£50. Although you can purchase a meal and drinks for alot less then that, depending on your choice.
There are 2 "proper" restaurants - "The Brasserie", which we have not tried and "Lion D'or", the fine dining restaurant, which was absolutely fantastic. We each had 3 courses, with 3 bottles of red wine, jugged water, a couple of vodka and lemonades and 3 pints of beer and the bill came to just over £250 - for 6 people - and for the standard of food and service received, we thought that this was very reasonable.
If you have not requested a room on the ground floor or near reception, you may find that the trek to your room takes rather a long time, so do make a request to avoid this, when booking. You can also request a paper to be delivered to your room in the morning, if you wish.
The total cost for 1 night, plus park and fly for 15 nights was £140 incl VAT. A very good deal considering how much airport parking can cost these days.
Lastly, yes the hotel does need a little bit of TLC, especially the corridors and rooms - the decor is looking a little tired now, but we will continue to stay here for pure convenience and because we have always received good service.
Room Tip: When booking, request a room near to reception, to avoid a long walk to all of the hotel amenities.

Thank you very much for your review following your recent stay with us. We were very pleased to read how much you enjoyed your stay, particularly your meal in the Lion d'Or. Your review was extremely informative and helpful, thank you. As it happens, our Health Club is operated by L A Fitness, I am sorry you did not get the opportunity to check out the facilities which are very nice. We do have some family rooms on the ground floor, however, the majority are located upstairs. This is purely due to the nature of our building, the age of which goes back many years. We can always provide families with assistance if they have luggage, prams etc. We allocate the family rooms on the ground floor before using the upstairs. Of course, the demand for family rooms during holiday periods often means we are quite busy.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back next time for your next holiday.
Kindest regards
